This tool still does not get it, other than the occasional offensive outburst what does he bring? He's awful defender and border-line Kobe like ball hog on offense. His TO to Asst ratio has to be bad, you would think he would learn something from Nash, while im venting Grant sucks bigtime along with Burke neither of them should be back next year period.

OK? my real name is Jason, I live in Glendale and could really care less about "board credibillity". Nothing in your response proves my opinion of the Brazilian Ballhog wrong...

Barbosa has improved offensively this season. He is just not very good at decision making and coach D knows that. Too bad Eddie House isn't any better.

I just got home and I am watching the Lakers game now. Barbosa needs to learn how to pass out more when he drives in. Lucky he is drawing some fouls.

Exactly, its hard to kick it out to someone when your looking at the ground while driving flipping up some sort of circus shot. His 1 on 3 during half court sets are pathetic.

That has been his weakness. His "vision" of the court is bad when he penetrates but this is usually not a problem when he looks for his shot. Barbosa is not exposed. He's just not very good at PG and when Nash comes back, he doesn't need to. We all know that he is best at scoring, same as Eddie House.

Diaw is the 2nd guard on this team.

how about the fact that he is almost ungaurdable, i have yet to see anyone that can stay infront of him. what about his three point shooting at 45%?

everyone has their strengths and weaknesess.

I read at some point that Barbosa really took to Marbury and learned to play the game under his direction. However, he was now trying to emulate Nash this season...I don't see it yet.

Here is the sad fact, we have a tendancy to compare his decision making against the best decision maker in the game - Nash. That is a little unfair. He has improved this year and I think he is a real asset when playing the two spot. I believe that D'Antoni has told him to use what is his strength, run by people. He just has a hard time remembering to keep his head up when doing so - he will get better. Some feel that he shouldn't be traded - I don't go that far.

I like Barbosa and he has his abilities: speed, ability to penetrate and shoot the three point shot.

However, it becomes even more apparent (in a game like today's Laker game) that the Suns really need a good backup PG.

I'm wondering if Toronto might have some interest in Barbosa (primarily because of BC) and if Phoenix could somehow package Barbosa and pick(s) to move into the #5 spot in the draft.

I don't really have any idea how a trade might work or whether it might be realistic.

I would sure like to move into that #5 position in the draft irregardless for a big man (which still leaves the Suns needing a PG). I'm thinking that Toronto might bite if the Suns gave them a couple of their first round picks (the Laker pick and the Suns pick this year or next) and perhaps a young player with some upside.

The Suns, of course, would have to covet a player at that position in the draft.

Anyway, I'm thinking Toronto might be a good trading partner. Also don't they have an unwanted PG in Toronto in Mike James??? Perhaps some package trade could be worked out with Phoenix getting that #5 pick.

I'm just brainstorming. :)

Mike James is a free agent this year (not sure if he's restricted or unrestricted). James has some talent, but he's got a giant ego and talks about himself in the 3rd person. He's going to want too much money and won't want to be a backup behind Nash.

Do you (or anyone) think the Suns could pry the #5 pick away from Toronto and what would it take? Perhaps the Suns should just stand pat as I think a good PG prospect and a project big man should fall to the Suns.

The question is would it be worth it for the Suns to move up in the draft?

I'm not keen on giving up Barbosa but I thought it would take a combination of pick(s) and a player to get the #5 pick from Toronto. Okay, the Suns can leave Mike James out of the equation.

What I really can see happening, is the Suns use the Laker pick in the draft and trade their pick this year for a second round pick and a future first round pick to a team like Toronto (sort of like what the Suns did with Vroman and Chicago) except hopefully it turns out better.

Or the Suns use pick(s) for a player they can bring on board using their TE with another team that fits that salary range. I hope I'm using the TE right.

Not a chance of us getting the #5. BC would lose way too much credibility in Toronto if he started making sweet deals with his former team. Although, I would have no objections.

Barbosa is turning into a great natural scorer and one of the best shooters in the league. Yes he isn't a pure PG like Nash and likely never will be but LB is a big time player and we would be lost without him to spark the bench.

The problem is this offense doesn't work without a PG who can set the table. Anyone have Barbosa's +/- for this year?

82games.com has him listed at a -2.5, but I don't like how they calculate that number.

When he's on the court, the Suns improve on offense from 111.4 to to 113.3. When he's on the court, they give up 7 more points. So, to me, it seems as if that -5.1 number is the important one. Another interesting one is Eddie House. Our defense gets better, but offensively we plummet with a -5.9? That probably has something to do with how often he plays with Nash.

But anyways, back to Leandro. I think the Suns have done the best thing possible with Leandro this year. Raise his value as a scorer. There will now be teams definitely interested in him, and that's important because we won't be able to afford the guy. Suns need two things, another big man and a backup PG. It would be nice if they could trade Leandro to fill one of those (would have to pay a small amount of luxury tax, and I doubt that'll fly). They'll probably trade him for a future first though.

The problem with the +/- stat is that other players rotate in and out with LB, and we dont know what their impacts are. I can assure you that if both Barbosa and House are in, the defense will degrade over Nash and Bell. Also if Diaw plays less in LB's rotation, D takes another hit.

Barbosa is: a very fast dribble penetrator with a great outside shot. He'll never be a great defensive player due to his size he will always be postable on the low block. From watching the recent Nashless games it is apparent that LB turns the ball over too much, but part of that appears to be lack of player movement without the ball. When LB has the ball, the cutters dont cut as hard to get open as with Nash. No suprise there, and when losing big in garbage time with both Bell and Nash out, they dont cut at all.

Really nothing can be taken from these "rest up" games, as the team is profoundly different with Nash out. LB will be used more effectively in the playoffs.

Or with the fact that, other than Jones, he's the worst shooter in the rotation. Look at the numbers.

Can somebody explain to me why every time House plays at home, he gets huge applause? Was he born in AZ? He seems to be the only one that can get the crowd going when he steps in. Weird.

I didn't like Barbosa last season 'cause he didn't have the PG game and the scoring game. He was terrible.

However, I see some bright future in Barbosa this season. I don't think he is a starter material but he is a good bench player who can provide some good offense when the team needs some. His speed is rare in this league and he can definitely cause some mismatches.

I think Suns will keep LB for quite a while. I don't think we can find a good backup PG for Nash any time soon. Actually, we just found one in Diaw. I believe he can average just as many assists as Nash if Nash doesn't play. With the system we have now and Diaw's ability to penetrate/pass, he can definitely run the show while Nash is resting. This is why I can't wait until next season when Amare is ready.

Although we can't say Diaw is really THAT good until we see him in the playoffs.

He played college ball at Arizona State (15 minutes from downtown PHX) and was one of the top scorers in the PAC 10 when he was a senior.

Playing with Nash has its benefits, just ask JJ, the former 48% 3 pt shooter. The problem with House is that he plays alot without Nash and the offense without Nash is just sloppy. The worst case scenario: clock winding down, poor ball movement, so eddie takes a forced shot. Eddie is better as a catch and shoot player. Its all about shot selection, not who is a "good" or "bad" shooter. Suns coaches will tell you that these guys are good shooters, and they would be right saying so. Jones has hit 86% FT's this year, but his shot selection has not been very good. Bell has had really good shot selection, and often is the benefactor of good Nash assists that are spot on. It also seems that Bell does not take alot of shots with the clock winding down, because Nash works hard to prevent that situation. Eddie as backup point is another matter. The suns shot selection with Eddie as backup PG is poor, so anyone playing with him is affected.

I see the suns parting ways with House next year for two reasons: 1) need a backup point who takes care of the ball, delivers timely passes. 2) the guard rotation of Nash, LB, House, Bell is too small and too easily posted. LB and House dont rebound well, and House and Bell do not dribble penetrate well. The suns need a 6'4"-6'6" guard who can shoot, dribble penetrate, play some D, rebound.

This might happen twice a month.
