Winfield was pulled from under them, so they go out and sign Barrett very fast. I wonder what the contract was.

Now we ARE in serious trouble. If we don't sign Macklin, our entire draft must shift to focus on getting 2 starting CBs.

I disagree completely with those of you who didn't like Barrett. You underrated him terribly.

Do you think instead of shifting focus of the draft we may shift focus to Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent?

Bummer. *sniffle* see ya..............................
Seeya when we play ya.

Sorry Skkorp and others. I'm happy. Losing him removes the temptation to play him.

That said - pressure's on to bring in and sign 2 starting corners.

Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent and should the Patriots stub in resigning Law and the Fins stumble with Madison.......along with Macklin these are our only hopes.

6 years, 21 million, 4.5mill. bonus

I know you liked him Skorp, I though he didnt get as much credit as he deserved as well but, there is no way I would have been happy with us giving him that kind of contract.

I agree with Skkorp...and have been saying so for a while. With the right coaching, Barrett has the talent and the experience to be a very effective starting corner. Time to finally give Bobby Taylor a call...the best RCB available. Add Macklin and the secondary is looking sweet.

My only problem with Macklin is his size. He doesn't have the stature of a Barrett. That is why I want them to sign Bobby Taylor. He matches up well against the bigger WR.

I couldn't help but snicker at a couple of the comments by posters from the Jets board, that was linked:

"People have been saying this guy could be the sleeper cornerback free agent. I havent seen much of him, but from the numbers he doesnt impress me. Does not have the interceptions, so I am hoping he is just a really good cover guy, who nobody wants to thrown on."

and...

"5`10 " When will our FO LEARN you can`t hire guys 5`10" to cover guys 6` 2 and over"

...since when was David Barrett ever 5'10" ?????? :lmao:

Seems to me we had another CB we did not think much of. Now he is an all pro for some other team. Our CB's can look worse than it appears because we have absolutely no pass rush and they have to cover people for much to long as our opposing QB's just sit back and have all day. Judging a CB on a Cardinal team is a tough call. Unless we get someone better losing your starting CB is certainly no plus and as of now we need at least two CB's. The Jets must see something in him to sign him to a 6 year deal.

I like the Jets and I'm pissed they signed him to that amount. He's not worth it. Starting CBs get picks. What did Barrett have last year, one or two? He got his contract and the Jets got screwed. I'm glad he's no longer here.

Are you referring to Chavous? He made the Pro Bowl as a safety. The reason he went to the Vikings is because the Cardinals wanted him to play safety, but he wanted to be a CB. Then when he gets to Minnesota he switches. Bad analogy.

As for Barrett, I wouldn't have minded him coming back, but I'm not shedding any tears over his departure. He got the #1 CB job by default in his contract year and basically did nothing with his opportunity. Heck, most of the year he was outplayed by Renaldo Hill.

IMO he is not worth anywhere near what the Jets gave him.

The Cards better sign two corners in free agency. If they don't then the draft will look like this:

Round 1-Best player regarless of position
Round 2-CB
Round 3-CB
Round 4-CB
Round 5-CB
Round 6-DT
Round 7-DT

Arizona will be forced to fill need with it's entire draft.

who cares about Barrett - the guy was a decent NICKEL BACK and now this just means that we HAVE to sign Macklin, Taylor, Vicent or heaven forbid - SAM MADISON - to actually not only replace Barrett but significantly upgrade the team. If we sign one of those three guys, combined with the Berry sgining and we take Mike Williams, this offseason will be considered outstanding in my eyes -however, Graves needs to get on the horn fast - WE DO NEED A #2 Corner - nice signing with Berry though - damn that was much needed - let's hope this 250 DE will be more successful than a lot of you seem to think another 250 pound defensive end/lb who we passed on in last year's draft would have been.:D
