Is there any real logic to suspending guys after brawls? Is it really a deterent or would there be alot of them if suspensions weren't handed down? Just curious.
I say there is no logic and that guys will charge the mound if they feel they have been wronged somehow. Lots of guys get plunked (intentionally) after their pitcher hit someone...intentionally or not...and they simply take the base knowing that is how it works. Other guys seem to get all bent out of shape for the most minor plunking.
Take last nights Cubs-Reds deal. Cubs pitcher has one get away (clearly it wasn't intentional). Then the Reds pitcher hits Moises Alou (intentionally) but instead of hitting him in the butt or somewhere meaty, he throws at his bad knee. Then Farnsworth throws the ball, as he is taught, at a btter who has squared to bunt and then all hell breaks loose. Great takedown by Farnsworth (Cards should sign him to play defense).
