A ridiculous situation could occur if Texas A&M beats Texas tomorrow. If that happens, the Longhorns with two losses, could very well drop out of the top 6 in the BCS. That means Boise State would be guaranteed a BCS bowl!

Here would be the matchups assuming everyone else wins out:

Orange: USC-Oklahoma

Rose: Michigan-Auburn

Sugar: Virginia Tech-Utah

Fiesta: Boston College-Boise State (Could you imagine that? It'd be a Liberty Bowl game in the BCS!)

Even worse, Cal would be knocked out of the Rose Bowl and go off to the Holiday Bowl. That would force ASU to play in the Sun Bowl against Purdue.

BLLLEEECHHHH!!!!!

Boston College?!?!?!?!

well....GO TEXAS!!!

Boston College is in as Big East champ. The best the Fiesta can hope for is BC vs. Utah.

Huh?

So the #4 team in the nation is left out? And BC is in? Is BC even ranked?!?!

The Big East champ gets an automatic berth, it doesn't matter where they are ranked. The other automatic berths are the champs of the ACC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac 10 and SEC. The other two spots are "at large" berths. The change this year is that if a team is in the top 6, and not from one of those conferences, they automatically get one of those berths.

If Cal loses to Southern Miss, ASU will get bumped to the Sun as well.

I Hope we Can Get in!!!!

It would certainly be a big deal for Boise State. I think they would beat Boston College too.

yeah, boise is playing well this season. they are the second youngest team in division 1. i'm glad we are on the edge of getting in. i hope the game today is not fixed. it financially, winning today would hurt A&M. if texas was forced out of the BCS, and boise let in, that's one less school to get some big time income from. each BCS game pays out 14 million to each school, which is then split between the conference teams.

this is why it's a big deal for both BSU ans Utah to do well. our other option is the Liberty bowl. it pays out 1.3 million. that's a lot less to split between all the WAC members. if Texas does win, that means there will likley be two big 12 teams in the BCS, depending on their championship game. that means with the payouts form oklahoma and texas, that A&M will get a partion of 28 million rather than 14. is it worth losing a game? i hope not, but it might be tempting.

The Aggies would PAY 14 million if it could buy them a win over Texas. Having lived down there, I promise you they would not trade a win over the Longhorns for anything.

And, you have two cracks at it, assuming you blow out Nevada. Cal plays So. Miss next Saturday in Mississippi.

well...so much for that debate....

It looks much better for ASU now, but they could still wind up in the Sun Bowl. And, Boise St. could still wind up in the Fiesta.

The problem for ASU now is that if Texas passes Cal in the BCS standings, even if Cal beats So. Miss, Cal is bumped out of the Rose Bowl. Or, if Cal loses to So. Miss ASU will be in the Sun Bowl.

Cal down 7-0. If they don't win this game, ASU will be off to the Sun Bowl and the Fiesta will have a Boise St. - Pittsburgh matchup.

Cal Bears too much for Southern Miss.

Good thing for the Pac-10 too, with so few bowl eligible teams this year, they could ill-afford to lose that second BCS spot.

Yeah, they came through. I was nervous all the way until Arrington busted that big run towards the end of the game and they scored on the next play.

And they did lose it - Texas in the Rose Bowl.

This means ASU is getting banished to El Paso for the Sun Bowl. Ouch. I don't see why Gene Smith wouldn't decline the Sun Bowl and just play in the Insight. Being at the BOB more fans will be able to attend plus playing Notre Dame will get the game watched by far more people.

Doesn't the Pac-10 slot teams? I.e. ASU has no choice in the matter.

Well, they still wound up getting screwed even though everyone won the games they were supposed to win.

Texas should not have jumped Cal because they had a tough game at Southern Miss. Texas barely survived a game at Kansas just a couple of weeks ago. Once again, the BCS proves it's the sorriest system for determining a champ in all of sports.

The Pac-10 presidents should ban together and turn down the BCS money to make that point shouldn't they!
