Love him, but that money will be better spent elsewhere and I doubt he'll restructure.

Edge isn't worth 5 million a year.

If we end up in the Superbowl he will easily be worth the 5 mill. We actually have a running game now. Edge is playing like he did 5 years ago. Maybe it is the fresh legs or he has seen this team really can make it to the super-bowl? If no Edge we have to have someone at least as good as nearly all teams are going with dual RBs. Not just a prime time RB but interchangeable RBs.

This offseason IMO will determine Edge's legacy. The man claims to want a ring more than anything. That should mean that he'd be willing to restructure his current deal in order to stay with a team that can get him said ring. If he goes to Cincy on the otherhand because they pay well and can guarentee 25 carries a game then that's that.

Personally I love Edge and really feel like he is the most disrespected player on the board. Hopefully he is still here next season.

Agree with both of you!

I'm not convinced of that!
Edge wants to be paid... again. Ain't gonna happen here. ;)

Agreed, and it shouldn't happen here.

Its funny that people don't think he is worth his contract, umm without Edge coming back its unlikely we would be as far as we are. After watching this team struggle to have a decent RB for many years I think alot of you are way to willing to let a good one walk away.

Thank you Edge for what you have done for this team, so many don't see it they just want to complain about money, like this team doesn't have plenty of it! Keep showing us what you got the next 2 games and hope you get a decent deal to go play for a team that appreciates your efforts.

The Colts let Edge go and won the Super Bowl the following season with a rookie running back they drafted.

If Edge is and agreed to being utilized like he has been I would be happy he stayed.
Everybody and anybody that wants to give him the boot should be willing to explain your plan to replace him.
Do you use a high pick to draft one?
Do you go thru free agency and if so, do you have anybody in mind?

You still need to replace Edge. I'm okay with Hightower, but you got to have a backup. Most teams are going with a two back platoon. Are you seriously going to say the other back should be Arrington? What if Hightower gets hurt? Who do we fall back on?
I know Edge is 5 mil, but you mean to tell me if we go to a SuperBowl with this combination of players we merely get rid of players to save money.

I need to know who you have in mind to replace Edges roster spot.

I think JJ has proven he can be a good 3rd down back and a spell. That being said if you really think we need another great RB? Derrick Ward is a free agent, i dont really know any others who are free agents.

Paying older RB's is a stupid way to run a franchise.

The idea is to get Edge in the first half of his career not the last half, same with ES.

We seem to be the worst team in the NFL at recruiting RB's, we just stink at it, although one of ours did go on to be good after we gave up on him, Thomas Jones.

I myself would concentrate on finding someone who can tell a good RB from a bad one and hire them as a scout and save myself a lot of money and get more production because of it instead of overpaying aging superstars to make up for the fact I couldn't find a RB if they were shaking my hand.

Okay, I'm fine with Derrick Ward. Now what is he going to cost us? He won't come dirt cheap thats for sure. Subtract his salary from what Edge is scheduled to make and what are you saving?

I think Hightower is a good short yardage RB. IMO we will release Edge and draft a speed back that will share caries with Hightower. However, I doubt if we draft a rb in the first round. We could also pick up a rb in free agency for depth but not a big name player.

Okay. SO Hightower goes down 1 game one and is out for the season. Our starting running back becomes........not a big name player. Who? Rudi Johnson? Kevin Jones? Arron Stecker?
Um, until I get a name, I'm sticking with Edge.

being as Ward is better than edge, and younger, if you subtract his salary from edges and get a positive number, you better do it.

I think he wants to play, more than be paid at this point. When he says he would just quit if he thought he couldn't play anymore, I believe him.

That said, I think Cards will go a different route this offseason. How, I don't know. It seems like they can ill afford to lose both James and Arrington.

I doubt that happens though. He's actually more proven than Michael Turner was, I don't think you could sign Ward for less than that.

I would love to have him still here next year.

Could we have got to where we are now without Edge? I do not know the answer to that. if we could not have then he easily earned his 5 mil just getting us to this spot. How much is reaching this spot worth to a team in $$$$$$? What is all the publicity we have got worth in increased ticket sales for next year and for the playoff games revenue? I would not know how to put a value on the players pride they must feel and perhaps our run this year will payoff in free agents now taking a serious look at the Cardinals. Certainly Edge did not do this on his own but the question is could we have made it without him? Our coach made the decision to use him so give him the credit for that.

We did not have a running game until the last three games. Edge was not gaining many yards early in the season and it looked like his career was at an end and then suddenly like a bolt of lighting he is fighting for yards like Larry Centers. This new found running game surely has much to do with our beating up on some the good teams in the league. I do not think we get here without this running game. Maybe Hightower could have done it on his own. I doubt it but we will never know.

As to next year, Edge will be 31 and in the world of running backs that is getting old. We will have to address his position soon. Is he worth 5 mil next year? I have no idea. Can we get a better RB next year. This is sort of like the Kurt Warner situation but we do have Leinart in waiting but have no Edge in waiting. I think Warner has at least one more solid year in him and perhaps two. Warner's leadership and experience make him extremely valuable to this team. I think our receivers have a lot of trust in Warner and that is worth a lot. The GM and owner will have some tough decisions this off season. The decisions will be even tougher if we continue to win. People will come a knocking on our door for coaches as well as Boldin, our LB, and likely Warner who would fill the bill for a team who is a QB away from a super-bowl.

This has been the best year for the Cards in my life time and it came unexpectedly. Perhaps our coach has got everyone on the same page and we are surely playing or peaking jut at the right time. Thing sure should be rocking this weekend and I would love to be at the game. Even at my advanced age I would paint my face and my body red and white and go crazy.
