He was still geting tripped up and losing his footing last year. Its the main reason he never busted a real long one IMO. His balance just sucks.

I don't agree with that. K9 and I went over all of Beanie's breakaway runs on video earlier this year and getting tripped up 20 yards downfield wasn't a problem.

Maybe you're talking about potential long runs where one guy tripped up Wells after a short gain and if BW had gotten by that guy he might have had a long run?

Still that didn't keep him from having some fabulous runs last season, none really this year, and going over 5 ypc 8 times including the playoff game vs GB.

Something is just not right with Wells.

had the same issue his freshman year in college... I think he's still adjusting to the speed of the game because the tripping himself up issue disappeared as he got more experience in college

This is what I was talking about. There were quite a few plays last year where Beanie could have busted it for a long one and he would just simply get knocked over at the feet or slip and lose his footing.

Obvious run plays that if he could have just broken the tackle or not "slipped" that could have been big gainers. Yet they weren't.

So the difference is this season he's not getting the classic runs he had against the Giants and the Bears and the Packers to offset getting tripped up. He just doesn't look like he's the same guy that juked the Bears CB or stiff armed the Giants defender etc.

He is a bust more and more in my eyes. He is just not a footballplayer. I hated the pick back then and i hate it even more now.

He is big and fast but not tough. Barber absolutely destroyed him, you can't let CB's do that to you.

He is horrible passblocker and he will cost you devestating injuries to your QB, it was pure luck that didn't happened today, it was only an INT, pick six.

He has bad vision and can't find the lanes... He is only good when provided a huge hole, where his acceleration helps him alot, but in those situations, all backs look good

He has troubles with ballsecurity. He does not seem to understand the playbook at all, lots of the troubles come from him being lost on what's going on. He even takes the handoff in wrong directions sometimes.

Horrible in the passinggame, cost us one drive today on 3rd down.

very easy to tackle, you just go for the legs, and you have him every time.

Way too soon to make this assertion (and a little harsh for that matter). He has his weaknesses, but the current disparages in the passing game and on the line make everyone look abysmal. He still has breakaway speed and upper body strength. When he hits the 2nd level, he has a good chance of taking it a long way. The problems are a) the box is always stacked because there is no respect for the pass game b) Maui'a is not a good lead blocker c) our 2 TE sets aren't much better and d) our line as a whole stinks at run blocking.

It is too easy right now to blame one person for the loss, but you have to look at the big picture. 4 turnovers, 38 points allowed, a QB change before the end of half, and mental lapses in coverage.

Valid points.. However, his very clear lack of toughness is a concern. I have no doubt Whiz holds those concerns the most!

All a defender needs to do is put an arm out at his legs and he's done. Which sucks because when he is out in the open with a defender, he just destroys them. WTF.

Good points TJ. This was a typical hard fought NFL game. We just came out on the short end of it. To only lose by 3 and to come back like we did down 17 with the worst QB tandem in the NFL is nothing to be ashamed of.

The Cards just don't have the talent+experience overall that they had in 2008. We have to accept that. And in a QB driven league we're really handicapped.

(This is the way I had hoped the Cards would play in Atlanta btw which would have forestalled a lot of doom and gloom.)

As for the future I don't know what we're going to do. Max is nowhere near ready to play if he ever is, and DeWreck is, well DeWreck.

Scary isn't it given all of the FA's we have on the horizon, if there is NFL football.

FYI per NFL.com, Wells suffered a bruised lower back(presumably when Barber flipped him) and was available late in the game but that's why he didn't play much down the stretch.

Now the Cards can't run the ball and they've given up 22 sacks in 7 games compared to 26 in 16 games last season.

That old guy who played QB for us last year was pretty good at making his reads and getting rid of the ball fast, unlike either of the deer in the headlights we have this year.

I saw why Hall needs to stay on the bench for the rest of the season and maybe one or two more from watching the Saints tonight. That other midget was under constant pressure from the Steelers D and made some amazing throws. Experience is paramount.

We went to the SB with the most experienced team the Cards have had in Arizona. We have 11 guys in new positions this season and it shows.

I think Wells should go back to the heavier weight. I don't notice much of an increase in quickness, so it does no good to be smaller. Unless injuries are part of the equation.

This makes some sense to me. He used to seem more like a bowling ball. Now he seems a bit more top heavy and easy to tip over in that sense.

But on a side, how in the world did THT see only one carry in this game???

I was about to start this thread. This running game, and particularly these RB's, are just not good. Hightower runs hard, but doesnt have the burst and fumbles too much. Beanie is terrible and falls down at the slightest touch.

Hard to run the ball when you have these two guys. Id say there is very little trust in the running gae right now...
agreed they are running gay right now:D

Apparently Whiz finally decided to hold a player responsible for their actions? After seeing Wells do absolutely nothing all game I really wanted to see Hightower get some runs. It's a combination of something just not being right with Beanie, the box constantly being stacked because we have two hobos at QB, and a line that can't run block. He has not looked good outside of the oakland game this year.

I don't know what's up with Beanie. My only guess is that he's still not 100% healthy and isn't confident in his cuts. He bounced outside considerably more last year.
This is probably the most accuarte.

Kurt Warner, Matt Leinart, DA, Hall, how many QB's have to trip while coming away from C to hand the ball off before we realize Sendlein has a bad habit of tripping the QB?

I know Warner was not exactly a ballerina(ironic the show he's on now) but that's now 4 QB's we've had that have teh same problem. We've changed the LG, and it's not Lutui stepping on them.

The one that infuriated me was that little inside shovel pass to Jason Wright, Sendlein makes his block it's a TD, he misses the block and the guy gets Wright. He's not the biggest of our problems but he's part of it, and he still seems to tip the snap.

Faneca needs to learn to duck faster so DA won't hit him.

How lame was that throw. If it didn't hit Faneca it ends up in the ground before it ever gets into the endzone.

He didn't have a great day, but he was effective enough when given a shot. What I love is that he rips off a 10 yard run to start the game and then we throw the ball the following plays. That is the problem with having a head coach call the plays. Sometimes there is so much on his mind that he fails to recognize player momentum.

Tell me about it. I saw that run, and offered up some sage advice to the TV: "Now, run it again, and again, and again and again, until they can stop us. Then mix the run in with the pass, with more runs in ration. If you don't, our QB will give up the game."

Damn, I hate being right :(

When do we give ANY of our RB's time to warm up? Might get 6 carries in the first half and 1 in the second (even with leads!).
