Bears fired GM Jerry Angelo.

Angelo was Chicago's general manager for the last 11 seasons. It's notable that December rumors had Angelo considering "retirement," but perhaps he was just seeing the writing on the wall. New GMs almost always want their own handpicked coaches, so Lovie Smith and his staff should not feel safe throughout the McCaskey family's search for a new front office. Angelo had been getting mixed results from the draft and free agency in recent seasons, falling well behind the Packers and, more recently, the Lions in the NFC North.

So overdue. The Bears fans must be dancing in the streets. Maybe they will snatch up Polian.

The Bears announced on their website Tuesday that Lovie Smith will remain as head coach in 2012.

Despite firing GM Jerry Angelo Tuesday morning, the McCaskeys apparently have no plans to sack Smith or his staff. "Lovie Smith will remain as head coach and will continue to evaluate his coaching staff," the Bears' statement reads. Smith could emerge from the front-office change with increased decision-making power, and perhaps even have say in hiring Chicago's next GM. As noted by Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Smith and Packers Director of Football Operations Reggie McKenzie are "very good friends." McKenzie may rank high on the Bears' list of Angelo successors.

Graves still has fans in Chicago, right? ;)

Seems like a perfect fit to me.

Martz is also rumored out.

Any interest, given our anemic offense?

(I have no position - there are risks and potential rewards. Just wondering out loud).
