Another special teams contributor is heading to the Chicago Bears. On Monday, the team announced they had signed former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nick McCloud to a one-year deal.
McCloud came into the league as an undrafted free agent in 2021 with the Buffalo Bills, but saw his first game action with the Cincinnati Bengals. He became a regular contributor for the New York Giants from 2022 through 2024, playing in 38 games. McCloud primarily played special teams, but he did have 16 starts for the Giants during his tenure. His best season came in 2022 when McCloud totaled 43 tackles, two for a loss, 1.5 sacks, two QB hits, and seven pass breakups in 14 games.
Midway through the 2024 season, despite having five starts under his belt, McCloud was waived by New York and signed by San Francisco to their practice squad. He played in eight games for the 49ers, totaling 11 tackles as a special teams contributor.
McCloud comes to Chicago, competing for one of the last cornerback spots on the team. The Bears recently lost Jaylon Jones in free agency to the Arizona Cardinals, and it's possible McCloud takes over his vacant spot when training camp begins.
