The Chicago Bears selected Michigan tight end Colston Loveland with the 10th overall pick, and there was some justified concern among the fanbase as it relates to his health.
Loveland suffered an AC joint dislocation last season with the Wolverines, which required surgery in January. Dr. Neal Elattrache wrote a letter, as shared by Adam Schefter, where he explained that he expects Loveland to be ready to participate in minicamp and be fully cleared for training camp.
Shortly after Loveland was selected on Thursday, Bears senior director of player personnel Jeff King said the Bears felt good about his availability for training camp.
Loveland met with reporters during his introductory press conference on Friday, and he shared an update about his recovery, where it sounds like he's right on schedule.
"Six months was the timetable," Loveland said. "We’re three out right now. And it feels great. I got full range of motion and everything. I can do really everything but just like super heavy weight. ... We’re in a good spot."
Loveland said he can run and catch balls right now, which is certainly encouraging as he looks to build chemistry with quarterback Caleb Williams before things kick fully into gear this summer.
Considering recent history, most recently last year's third-round offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie, there's concern about the Bears drafting an injured player. But it sounds like Chicago is confident that Loveland will be ready to go when the contact begins this summer.
