Was it me or was that pitch in D.C. looking terrible with seams and bumps everywhere?

I still disagree, Chap. He'll help for a year or two, I think, but that's about it. He might stick around more, but he'll be a nonfactor at that point. It's not about his age compared to other old players. It's about how much he's slowed down, how much his game has been reduced. He's a good leader and a good free-kicker. He'll do well for a year or two because the speed of the MLS is slower than in the other major leagues, but eventually even that won't be enough. He's simply too old, for him, to keep up for five more years.

Well, I never thought I'd change your mind. You seem to me to be a European league fan, not an MLS fan. Which is ok, I just disagree because the age factor isn't as huge a factor in soccer as it is in some of the other sports. Like I said, Zidane was ancient and yet was still one of the top 3 players on the France squad, which is pretty good in its own right.

Actually most players that come over from leagues in Europe say the pace is faster in MLS and often more physical. Where the problem lies is in technical ability and skill. People can say what they want about the American players but nobody ever questions their fitness or athleticism.

I'm not a huge MLS fan because the passing is terrible and finishing laughable but things are improving.

Beckhams game has NEVER been about speed. Its always been about his passing, confidence on the ball and free kicks. His skill has diminished but he's only 32 yrs old, he's got at least 3 solid years ahead of him especially in the MLS. The only concern I have for him is the lack of skill in MLS is evident in the hacking, clumsy tackles we see and it could cause him an injury.

Blanco is in a similar situation, his lack of speed is more than made up for with his superior skill on the ball. He is making the entire Chicago team look better and he is 2 yrs older than Beckham.

Great example... I saw highlights of his first game with Chicago and he was making some sick passes. They're a better team with Blanco and LA will be better with Becks. And he WILL be good for his 5 years. Passing isn't a skill that diminishes with age.

Beckham with his first start in the SuperLiga semi-final versus DC United, he scores on a free kick and then has an assist to Donovan in the second half. He played just over 60 minutes and wore the captains armband. LA won 2-0

LA will play Pachuca for the first SuperLiga championship later this month.

Good for him, but more importantly, good for MLS. I really don't like MLS, but I recognize that until it becomes at least decent, it will be so much harder for our national team to compete on the world scene.

Beckham also rec'd a yellow card for a tackle. Since when does he tackle anyone? :)
