The Cleveland Guardians announced Thursday that Tanner Bibee was scratched from his Opening Day start because of food poisoning, and former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Ben Lively instead will start against the Royals in Kansas City, opposing Cole Ragans.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. Eastern, the same time as the Giants-Reds game at Great American Ball Park.

Lively, a fourth-round pick of the Reds in the 2013 draft, was 4-7 with a 5.38 ERA in 19 appearances for Cincinnati in 2023. Last season for the Guardians, he finished 13-10 with a 3.81 ERA in 29 starts.

Cleveland signed Lively as a free agent in December 2023.

Lively received the Sheldon "Chief" Bender award as the Reds' Minor League Player of the Year in 2014.
