Although contract figures have not been disclosed, it is believed that Berry received a signing bonus in the range of $5 million -- a veritable bargain when you consider that St. Louis free-agent defensive end Grant Wistrom signed with Seattle on Thursday for a package that included a $14 million signing bonus. Wistrom had four fewer sacks than Berry last season.

If this is correct, we got ourselves a real bargain.

I agree. Only a 5 million SB on a five year contract sounds good. Also since we didn't break the bank on him we can keep on shopping.

I agree 100% 40 year fan!

This is a great great day for the Cardinals!

I originally wanted Kerse, and I would have spent maybe 10 or 12 million for a signing bonus to get him.

But the more I think about it, the more I think a guy like Berry is the perfect FA acquisition. Young guy, proven producer, but not a superstar who will break the bank and then maybe not even produce.

FA should be used to fill one, or maybe two holes on your team. But with established role players, not superstars.

The rest of your money should be spent signing guys that you have drafted and developed, and thats where your superstars come from. A guy like Kerse is never going to be worth that fat signing bonus and salary. He just uses up too much cap space.

I'm thinking we need a DT, and it will be mission accomplished for Graves and company.

Forget last season, Bert will be a bargain if he produces this season.

Jeff,

As you said earlier, it's the Jewish (cautious) side of you that influences.....

Berry was a coup.....we may have actually have the #1 pick of FA when it's all said and done.

True Dat!

Pace was a rookie too last year.

2 DE that are pretty quick. Pace just needs more power.

Jim O Pace been in the wieght room? He needs it.

He benched over 500lb's in his pro day workout. How much more does he need?

According to the Denver Post, he signed a five-year deal with a $5 million bonus.

The base salaries should be available soon.

So far it seems like a good deal.

The 5 mil signing bonus is good news but could be an issue if his contract is high otherwise. If he gets 5 mil per year then we have the cap space for one more quality FA.

If his salary is not too high then we either are incredibly smart or Berry is not a top level pass rusher.

I expect that all of our DE's will see a good amount of playing time which is great news. Keep them fresh and continue the development of DJ and Pace going.

It seems that we won't go DE early in this draft if at all. A DT that can apply pressure should be on our draft wish list now. The CB position is still the biggest need on this team as well.

With the signing of Barrett by the Jets and the reported contract we should have put the transition tag on him. I think the $'s would have been pretty close and we might have gotten a 2nd or 3rd rd pick for him.
