Absolutely cannot go wrong with any of either Entwistle's or Bruce's bass-grooves....

The other Entwistle songs that "stand-out" to me are of course "The Ox", "Boris The Spider" and then "Heaven And Hell" (both live versions from the Isle Of Wight and Live At Leeds albums and the studio version on Maximum R&B)....

Other solid Bruce performances would definitely be in "Coffee Song", "Politician", and also both "Sitting On Top of the World" and "Born Under A Bad Sign"... "Wheels of Fire" was just an awesome album........

In terms of McCartney... "Dear Prudence" and the bass lines in "Something" were probably his most definitive......Solowise...."Junior's Farm" is another one that comes to mind.....

Edit:

A couple of others I would like to mention for now are:

1) "Under My Voodoo" Eric Wilson (Sublime)
2) "1983... (A Merman I Should Turn to Be)" Noel Redding (Jimi Hendrix Experience)

I can pretty much list 10 primus songs...

Primus-"Jerry Was a Racecar Driver"
Primus-"Tommy The Cat"
Tool-"Schism"
RATM-"Bombtrack"
Probably a rush song but I can't think of one.

Yeah... Les Claypool, Justin Chancellor, and Tim Commerford are obviously awesome... can never go wrong w/listing any of their songs....

Lord.... I'll never forget the first time I heard "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver"... I was so spellbound by Claypool's performance.....He just elevated bass playing to a higher level....took it to unexplored dimensions/heights....

Tool.. my favorite album of theirs is "Undertow", The bass in "Sober" and "Prison Sex", and "Swamp Song" are still amazing to this day....

In terms of Rush.... "YYZ" to me ranks among Geddy Lee's better efforts....

I should also add Jon Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) for his solid bass-playing in
"The Lemon Song" as well....

I saw them in concert when they were promoting the album and he was actually playing the drumming parts with the bass on this song, it was amazingly sick

Undertow is actually my least favorite, I think I even like Opiate more. Lateralus wins easily for me. The Grudge is my favorite song.

Yeah... I guess you've been more into Prog-Metal recently than I have been in a long time....It's one of those genres that I go thru phases liking..... Guess it depends on what mood I'm in.....

I've always loved that "hidden track" on "Undertow".... My friends and I would play that all of the time... it was just so twisted...yet hysterical....

Do you like A Perfect Circle as well?

Some solid selections there....

I've always loved the bass on "Thunderkiss '65" as well.... I would love if White Zombie would reunite.......

Hidden track on Undertow? I love APC. Except for Amotive Emotion etc. 13th Step and Mer De Noms are brilliant.
My 3 favorite APC Songs:
Blue
The Noose
Judith

I actually don't like Weak and Powerless

You've never heard it? It's definitely worth the wait (if you havent)... I won't disclose any specific details on it because I wouldnt want to "spoil" the experience for you......

If memory serves me (anyone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) you have to wait until track #69 or just don't stop the c.d. whatsoever (it's been awhile since I've listened to it) and then suddenly out of nowhere.... (won't fill in the blank)..... One of my friends came across it accidentally because he was once listening to "Undertow" and got sidetracked..... He forgot to stop the c.d. and then he got startled by some really loud sound and "unearthed"....Well..again.. wouldn't want to ruin any of it for you to the "slightest bit".... Please tell me when you've heard it because you'll be in for some shock....

I really overplayed 3 Libras when I first started listening to them.

So the hidden track is during "Disgustipation" but where in the song?

Actually "Disgustipated" is the "hidden-track"....

When do you purchase your copy of "Undertow"? I wonder if in recent copies of it the title is included w/in the actual album, but in fact back then it wasnt....

And the angel of the lord came unto me, snatching me up from my
place of slumber.
And took me on high, and higher still until we moved to the
spaces betwixt the air itself.
And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own midwest.
And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil.

One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear.
And terror possesed me then.
And I begged,
"Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?"
And the angel said unto me,
"These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots!
You see, Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and to them
it is the holocaust."
And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat like the tears of
one million terrified brothers and roared,
"Hear me now, I have seen the light!
They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul!
Damn you!
Let the rabbits wear glasses!
Save our brothers!"
Can I get an amen?
Can I get a hallelujah?
Thank you Jesus.
Life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on........

This is necessary.

It was daylight when you woke up in your ditch.
You looked up at your sky then.
That made blue be your color.
You had your knife there with you too.
When you stood up there was goo all over your clothes.
Your hands were sticky.
You wiped them on your grass, so now your color was green.
Oh Lord, why did everything always have to keep changing like
this.
You were already getting nervous again.
Your head hurt and it rang when you stood up.
Your head was almost empty.
It always hurt you when you woke up like this.
You crawled up out of your ditch onto your gravel road and began
to walk,
waiting for the rest of your mind to come back to you.
You can see the car parked far down the road and you walked
toward it.
"If God is our Father," you thought, "then Satan must be our
cousin.
" Why didn't anyone else understand these important things?
You got to your car and tried all the doors.
They were locked.
It was a red car and it was new.
There was an expensive leather camera case laying on the seat.
Out across your field, you could see two tiny people walking by
your woods.
You began to walk towards them.
Now red was your color and, of course, those little people out
there were yours too.

Edit: I for some odd reason remember "Flood" being the final track listed with ""Disgustipated" being "uncredited".... Or perhaps my memory is distorted from all those pixie-stix I snorted and pez I injected! :D

Thanks for clarifying that for me....I thought I had totally lost my mind or something since I remembered how my friends and I would always have to skip several tracks at a time to finally come across "Disgustipation".....

I'll add these other 4 songs for now that havent been mentioned yet:

1) "Anesthesia" (Pulling Teeth) - Cliff Burton (Metallica)
2) "I Want You" (She's So Heavy) Paul McCartney (The Beatles)
3) "Sweet Child O Mine" Duff McKagan (Guns N Roses)
4) "Pictures of Home" Roger Clover (Deep Purple)

Sounds lilke there are a lot of Tool fans here. Has anyone heard the album called The Replicants? Following his split with Tool in 1995, Paul D'Amour got together with keyboardist Chris Pitman and Failure members Greg Edwards and Ken Andrews for an offhanded project known as the Replicants. The Replicants were basically a glorified cover band creating spectacular versions of songs from Paul McCartney (Silly Love Songs) , Pink Floyd (Ibiza Bar), The Cars (Just What I needed), and David Bowie (The Bewlay Brothers) among several others. It's a great record - highly recommended if you can find it.

I've never heard of them, but thanks for the recommendation...Is there any album of theirs that you suggest that I check out first?

I'll add 2 more bass riffs for now:

1) "White Rabbit" Jack Casady (Jefferson Airplane)
2) "We've Gotta Get Out of This Place" Chas Chandler (The Animals)

Hey stranger.. How have you been? Really miss your contributions on this forum (and throughout the entire board).... Definitely a good choice there....that song also would fit having one of the best introductions of all-time as well.... They were simply awesome when I saw them during the '03-'04 Tempe Block Party...Was really excited about the prospects of seeing them live and they definitely lived up those expectations....

2 more bass rifts I would like to add:

1) "Walk On The Wild Side" Herbie Flowers (Lou Reed)
2) "Good Vibrations" Brian Wilson (Beach Boys)

Thank you for the wonderful "welcome back"! :D

I've been trying to reassimilate myself into the ASFN fold the past couple of weeks.

One more great bass-riff song for the hopper:

"Loser" - Beck
