thumbsucker

That's 'cause we all wanna be problemless. To fix ourselves. We look for some magic solution to make us all better, but none of us really know what we're doing. And why is that so bad? That's all we humans can do. Guess. Try. Hope. But, Justin, just pray you don't fool yourself into thinking you've got the answer. Because that's ********. The trick is living without an answer. I think.

What about his turn as recovering alcholic in "Hardball"

or

his dark brooding dude-like portail of a serial strangler in the movie "The Watcher" (not that it was completely watchable, Spader failed to show up for the movie and I failed to care who Keanu killed)?

I went with Bill and Ted I love that movie and the 2nd one was pretty good also. He was also really good in the Matrix series though

If you’re going to ask people to vote for an actor’s “best performances” rather than the best films he’s been in, you may want to actually include the movies where he had his “best performances.” Noticeably absent from your list are the following Keanu Reeves roles in:
My Own Private Idaho
I Love You to Death
Parenthood
Dangerous Liaisons
Much Ado About Nothing
Even Cowgirls Get the Blues
Little Buddha
A Walk in the Clouds
The Gift
Sweet November
Something's Gotta Give
A Scanner Darkly

I would say from my recollection that Reeves put in a number of decent performances for many of these films. Unfortunately, the only film you had on your list was “Dangerous Liaisons”. You’re not really giving the guy a fair shake if you don’t even put his most dramatic performances in the poll.

I disagree, and I thought that the list of movies was pretty good. Keanu hasn't been in that many roles where nobody but him could have pulled it off, and where he was spectacular. Parenthood? You really think that Parenthood should have been one of the limited choices in the poll?

Sorry, but you lose all credibility by including this movie.

Reeves was actually really good in his limited role in Parenthood. I mentioned it earlier, too.

My wife still doesn't believe that Joaquin Phoenix played the porn addicted young boy in that movie

His limited role does not make his best performance. Not even close.

I agree with the stalker sentiment.

Actually, I have seen all of those movies (But I’ve also seen most movies, not just Keanu Reeves movies – so no I’m not in love with Keanu), but I plucked them off of IMDB.com to help refresh my memory. Just because you didn’t personally like a movie, that does not mean that an actor did not have a good performance. I also don’t think it’s fair to dismiss a small role either. Otherwise you’d have to dismiss Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper in True Romance, Christopher Walken in Pulp Fiction, William Hurt in History of Violence, Mark Walhberg in The Departed… or countless others…

But then again we aren't talking about all of these smaller roles for these other actors, we are talking about Keanu Reeves. If you honestly think that every one of those movies that you listed deserved to be on a poll that included a certain number of choices, you are sadly mistaken.

I think he was trying to keep the list to ten movies. I’ve seen most of these movies, and in my opinion his acting wasn’t much different than the ten on the list. I think Keanu was given a fair shake with the ten movies listed.

I thought he was absolutely awful in Sweet November. However, I can see an argument for My Own Private Idaho and The Gift.

This is the point that I am trying to make as well. Most of the lists out there, (some of mine included) could have used one or two more movies. To list a handful of movies, and trying to argue that all of them were better than the ones listed is crazy talk.

Look, if you’re going to include his “brilliant performances” in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Johnny Mneumonic, Speed and Point Break, I think the least you can do is actually include the movies where he actually attempted to act. I do believe the original subject of this thread was “Best Performance”. I was simply trying to provide a better list of performances, some of which may be considered better than the ones offered in the pole. But heck, if you think his acting in Johnny Mneumonic was better than most of his performances from the list I provided, than so be it. It’s just an opinion and everyone has one. Although looking at the list in the pole, I’m only surprised Chain Reaction and Feeling Minnesota weren’t offered as choices – since the list seemed to have nothing to do with actual best performances. IMHO.
