It's very complex to compare any of Syd Barrett's era material to David Gilmour's since they are completely on the opposite end of the spectrum....

My absolute favorite though is "Wish You Were Here" mainly because of all the versions of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" which essentially captured the band at their most aspiring....especially Gilmour's guitar work.....Then followed by
"Dark Side of The Moon"....

I'm a n00b at Pink Floyd, Syd was the guitarist and got fired for ODing on LSD right? And he was with The Piper right? Could explain why it's my least fav.

syd was the original founder of the band - but he was totally strung out constantly. i've actually written a song about him called Anatomy of a Madman.

anyway - my favorite PF album is probably Wish You Were Here. i do love The Wall - the Film version.

Yes.. Syd sung vocals/played guitar on both "Piper" and "Saucerful of Secrets" and Gilmour ultimately replaced him on the movie-soundtrack "More" (released just before "Ummagumma)"....

I guess Syd is still in seclusion somewhere in London....

I'll be the odd man out and say Division Bell. I love the sound and feel of that album, and the songs are some of their best.

Wish You Were Here. If I had to listen to only one piece for the rest of my life though, it would be Fearless off of Meddle.

Brit Floyd will be at Comerica Theater next Saturday (5/11). I'll be there. Based on the Youtube videos, they aren't quite as spot on as Aussie Floyd (whom I have seen twice), but I can't pass up these kinds of mock up shows.

I have only seen Roger Waters live, not the real Pink Floyd. RW was a damned religious experience for me. I was stunned stupid the whole show and not because I was high in any respect - I was only drinking.

But, I would recommend next week's show to any PF fan though....
