Here is why Fitz is the undoubted best in the league, and why he will continue to be the best for another 10 years. He isn’t satisfied with just being good. He is willing to take coaching on any aspect of his game, if a coach tells him to work on something he runs with it. Case in point –
1. 2007 – Coaches asked him to run better routes. What does he do he takes extra time at the training facility working on his route running. What does he do he goes out and runs better routes for the more timing oriented passing attack and has his best season yet.
2. 2008 – Coaches ask him to get better at run blocking and yards after catch. Although it didn’t show up in the stats it sure did look like he wasn’t afraid to mix it up as a blocker, more so then years past. And the biggest improvement he rose his total YAC yards total by 200 yards compared to the prior season and rose his YAC average by almost 2 yards a catch. He went from 2.95 to 4.82. To put this years YAC per catch into perspective Boldins career average is only slightly higher at 5.48. Boldin was ranked #2 in YAC total this year and Fitz was only right behind at #5 out of all WR’s.
I am excited to know what coaches will ask him to work on next, and how he takes to it, just like any other time he was asked to learn something.
