From a Bowel movement to a Belch... we are just going to have to trust BA with a Cardinal's digestive track lol

Word is there won't even be a press conference, just an announcement, as BA will be out of town. Weird. Especially for such an unorthodox move for a so-called Super Bowl contender...and with a number of highly qualified DC candidates that were available this year.

Please tell us BA why James Bettcher is the right guy to lock horns with the likes of Mike McCarthy, Darrell Bevel and Chip Kelly.

BA is obviously working from a decision we have no knowledge of or we would not be asking why if it is him and anything he would say would just be coach speak of "he is the right man for the job"... the season is the only thing which makes us understand because we lack the insight which BA is motivated to select him... looking forward to the new season, I want to know why too lol

I think I read somewhere that they are still waiting for 1 "mystery" coach to decide if he is going to join the coaching ranks or not. Some are speculating that the mystery coach is a former player, most likely Larry Foote. And that once all the coaching positions have been filled, they will hold one big press conference.

As far as Bettcher is concerned, BA will have a better insight into what he is capable of and I'm sure Todd Bowles gave BA some sort of input as well. Everything I've heard, which is limited, about Bettcher is that he is a very bright individual. We'll see how it plays out.

I don't understand the logic behind promoting a guy to DC, when you've been actively scouring the market to buy him training wheels.

He's either ready or he's not.

closest thing to continuity BA can hope for, Doesn't want to bring in a new defense. We need a premium pass rusher in the draft, along with a featured big RB.

I think the former player rumor was Bob Sanders.

This whole thing smells like old Bidwill. No press conference, internal hire after Super Bowl when no reason unless an external candidate was offered but rejected. I want to know this guy's salary in comparison with other DCs.

This might be a first, but I actually agree with SMEL. By promoting from within the Cards can keep the same defensive scheme and terminolgy.

Hopefully the Cards can keep the defense together for the most part and maybe add a few vets via FA to fill any holes and a couple of quality young players in the draft.

The more I think about this, the mroe excited I get. First off, the guy spend two years under Bowles, so he understands the schemes and how the players will fit in. Second, the guy is an up and comer and I truly believe that BASK would not make this move if they didn't believe in him. Third, he know ours players better than anyone that would have come in from the ourside, so any tranistion will be small. And lastly, he was out LBers coach, the postition with the least amount of talent last year and over performed based on that lack of talent.

That is all I got.

That's the optimistic view that I am clinging to as well, banky...although I feel very leery about an inexperienced DC's chances versus the offensive masterminds of the NFC and NFL.

But, the way this appointment is being handled seems very odd and unusual. One would think BA would want to assure the players, the fans and the media of why Bettcher is the best choice possible---more than just saying he wants to keep the same defense and familiar verbiage. Much more than simply that.

It's like BA is trying to draw as little attention to it as possible which is a weird juxtaposition to the last time he announced his DC and was so ebullient about the hiring that he predicted Todd Bowles would be a HC some day.

cant they sign someone but have a press conference a week later after vacation? does the press conference really have to be immediate? does it make any difference?

I have my concerns but BA getting in front of a mic and talking the guy up isnt going to change any of them

So you dont see how paying a lower salary would benefit an owner seeking to maximize his net income? It does not necessarily mean anything but just to close your eyes to the possibility means you would refuse to see it if it became accepted that it was true. It is still possible to underpay a green coach. Why does an NFL team promote a green coach to DC when he wasnt going anywhere. Odds are based on track record the Big Red would be hiring a new DC in a few years either to replace a failed one or to replace a successful one who was hired away. So why not let the guy get a few years seasoning?

How do other teams handle the announcement of hiring a DC? If I were hired into the position I would want my employer to bang gongs and blow whistles while they praised me and what it meant to FANS. Nothing is owed to the people buying the tickets?
