Among other things, a great player makes those on his team better by his performance.

Marion's 10 rpg did not help the rest of the team. The Suns were among the worst rebounding teams in the NBA, and that is a fact.

Marion's stats an individual accomplishment? Yes.

Marion's stats a team accomplishment? Unfortunetely, no.

His presence actually stood in the way of the team's total success.

Shaq is a better Center than Amare. Amare is a better Power Forward than Marion. Marion's departure made that happen.

I think I agree, except in one area. Marion is a better defensive pf than Amare. I think Shaq makes up for the loss though time will tell.

The problem with the rebounding on this team is none of the guards help out. Nash, Bell, Barbosa -- there's no 6-5/245 lbs. hulk of a guard to bust out an extra 6 to help out the front line.

Amare will always be a decent offensive rebounder. The big question with Shaq is whether or not he will be make us a better defensive rebounding team, in addition to helping be a better defensively efficient team. If we make teams miss more shots but suddenly start giving up *more* defensive rebounds, the trade will have been a horrible failure. That's what the doomsayers seem to be predicting.
