In my book RM, you are 1+ fan for supporting the Cardinals after moving here. We need more of those.

......uh, I have to go re-read my post. I think I wrote something wrong.

I am still here in NJ. :D

Didn't mean to confuse you........you can take away my point. ;)

I am from New Jersey [edit: and I still live in NJ to this day]. I spend an embarrassing amount money on the Cardinals every year just to watch them on TV.

So, does my money make up for my geography or does that make me 1/2 a fan ?

But, honestly I don't give a crap.

NFL is a business, and the Cardinals are a football team that plays a game for entertainment.

If it is between entertainment and money for the good of my household, that is not even a moments decision.

Just a game played by mercenaries and, run by a huge business, and at the end of the day, neither give a crap about the fans past their money.

This is fun stuff, not life or death. Find a team, and root for it. How you got there is interesting sure, but when you are at the game, or at home living and dying with every play, you are put of the collective fandom and are welcome in my eyes. And, if you got to go to your families event on Sunday and sell your tickets ? Cool, we will see you next Sunday and welcome you with open arms.
I agree that sports is a business first, even more so today. I too am a NJ native but I did live in AZ for about 3 years then in NC for another 2 before moving back to NJ but I became a Cardinals fan in 1975 and have been so ever since. I've put up with a lot of abuse over the years, the kind of abuse those of you living in AZ have never dealt with. Tough rooting for a team who might win 5-6 games year in and year out. I tried to get to all the Eagles/Cards games when they came to town and went often when my dad had Eagles season tix. I even flew to St. Louis to see the Cards play the Bucs and saw the best game I've ever seen live.

That said, yes, sports is a business and now the players are in the same league as the ownership. Players today for the most part have zero loyalty to the city or the team(there are exceptions of course) and most players wouldn't piss on a fan if they were on fire. Back in the day it was different. Players didn't make millions. They made a good living yes but not like today. What LeBron James makes in a season entire franchises were worth but the players lived in regular neighborhoods. The reason why the Broad Street Bully Flyers are so beloved in the Philly area is because those players lived in the area, lived in regular neighborhoods. Played softball in the off season against local police departments or fire departments and later it wouldn't be unusual for the team to join everyone at someone's house for an after game BBQ. They drank at a local Philly bar(similar to the one in Invincible.) They endeared themselves to the city. Today, not so much. Anyhoo, Go Cards!

I personally know that two of my son's friends have sold their tickets to the Packers game for $1000.00 each. I don't blame them in the least for doing so. Neither of them get to go to all the games due to working overseas part of the football season. During that time they have given their tickets to friends to use, my son included. If they are ok in giving them to Cards fans when they are not available to go, they should not be put upon for selling them for a tidy profit for the Pack game, and no one should be on their case about either scenario. The tickets were paid for by them, and they should be allowed to do what they want with them.

I've always been curious about this kind of thing. How did you allegiances change when you moved to a new city? I've lived in SoCal now for over half my life and could never cheer for any of their teams and love my own less.

Don't misunderstand the above as judgement either. My Dad is the exact same story as you and was a rabid fan of everything Chicago and made the same flip you did. I just don't understand how it's possible so I'm always curious to hear others stories.

how is any of this important? Sports is nothing more than entertainment.
I dont care about the players and none of them care about me or you.

I owe them no form of loyalty and dont need to prove long term fan-ship to anyone. Its a childish, unnecessary thing.

they are allowed to do whatever they want... and other fans are allowed to say whatever they want.

I am super impressed that Bickley got through that whole article without plugging his Band once. That's like, a record.

I generally don't waste the time to read anything Bickley has to say. He is such a tool and Chicago homer can't stand the guy.

Huge fan of Bickley the personality but he's not the most talented writer. I always found it funny how sensitive some ppl get over him though.

I just sent him an email asking - if the Cubs and the Dbacks are playing in the NLCS, who does he root for?

And for Gambassado if the Dbacks and Yankees are playing in the World Series, who does he root for?

Do you think if a Dbacks/Cardinals homer was on the air in New York or Chicago, they would last long? Heck no. Disgrace both have air time here.

Here in Boston the top sports radio guy mike felger is a packers season ticket holder and his cohost is a Yankee fan. Boston is as rabid a fan base as their is. Homer radio hosts are the ones that people don't listen to in this area. Real fans want unbiased analysis not just what they want to hear.

I don't have season tickets anymore. But when I did if a game or two were selling for double or even tripple what I paid. I had no problem pocketing several hundred dollars plus the amount I save on beer watching from home. Now when we were in the playoffs no way was I selling those. Post season is a whole different deal there.

:yeahthat:

If ticket prices and game day costs weren't so high, that's another thing. Often times, the prices preclude some of the most avid fans from buying tickets. But, as BEERZ says, post season is whole different case.

Actually I'm happy people sell tickets or else I wouldn't have any way of getting them. :) Gotta admit I do hate seeing opposing fans there though. When there are a few of them scattered around its no biggie, but when whole blocks of them are there it irks me to no end.

I understand, but that fan is selling that ticket to a CARDINAL fan. It disgusts me that Cardinal fans sell tickets to the enemy.

Agree, but the Packer & Seattle games are the ones we need to win in order for us to have the greatest chance of winning in the playoffs. If you're going to sell your tickets for profit, then it absolutely, positively has to be sold to a Cardinal fan. If not, then I disagree. Can you imagine Raven fans selling their tickets to Steeler fans. No, it doesn't happen. Shouldn't happen in AZ either. Just my opinion.

Yes. Some of it may be perception as well. That is probably the only game transplanted Minnesotans will go to until their team returns here. Some other teams fans as well as Minnesota's just travel real well. Cardinal fans seem to do the same pretty much.

If the Cards win tomorrow (and the Packers lose in Oakland which I think they will do), these last two home games are meaningless.

In fact, I predict the Cardinals will play the Packers at home in Round 2 and then play the Seahawks in the NFC Championship game at home. Those two games vs. Green Bay and Seattle will matter.

I don't think it's childish at all. Some of them are "better" men than most people will ever be, on and off the field. We're taking a few professional athletes amongst billions of Joe Average. Excellence is excellence, doesn't matter if it's sports or business or philanthropy.

It's always been entertainment dude. Go back to Homers the Iliad and Odyssey and it's all about mofos going into battle and cutting off heads. Whether it's Alexander the Great, the sacking of Troy, Genghis Khan, or the Roman gladiators, people have always loved that ****.

Why don't you explain to us what's "important". And if it's not the Cardinals, I'ma have to say you're on the wrong forum man.
