Hall of Famer
I predicted that Dennis Green was going to become our new head coach before McGinnis was fired. My thinking may have been suspect, but it may also bear some merit.
The Cardinals have always been front runners in minority hirings in the NFL. That alone in my opinion made a impact on the worth of Green's stock. After reading the CNNSI article where it referenced the league is wanting (pressuring maybe?) the Cards to sign Green only further supports this point of view.
We are all aware of the fact that Bidwill Sr. lacks the fundamental qualities essential to make good football decisions. I don't believe though that we take into account the strength of the relationship Mr. Bidwill has with the elder statesmen in the fraternity that is the NFL. If Mr. Bidwill believes that he can get a good coach and support the initiatives of the NFL he'll make that happen even if that coach is not his true #1 pick.
As to the theory that once Green becomes head coach he will eventually try to pry away power from Rod Graves, I disagree. Dennis Green and Rod Graves will have the opportunity to do something in Arizona that has not yet been accomplished in the NFL. That is win with both a minority coach and a minority Vice President. Now, will Green try to get control over as much power as possible? Sure, I would'nt expect anything different. At the same time both of these men will recognize that the opportunity presented before them is bigger than the possible individual rewards. Make no mistake, these two men will be constantly reminded of this opportunity.
The ironic thing here is that Mr. Bidwill's old fashioned approach to business has almost always provided poor results in the win loss columns. I believe that by towing the company line this time he will have actually given us a tremendous opportunity to eventually win a Super Bowl.
