If the San Francisco 49ers are looking to trade down in the first round of this year's NFL draft, the booming interest in University of Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan could be good news for them.
There's a chance the 49ers, who are slated to pick No. 11 overall, aren't thrilled with their options when they're on the clock. A move down may net better value with a prospect, and it would build up their draft capital to maximize their chances to find players who can be difference makers for them as they turn the page to a new era in San Francisco.
Unfortunately for the 49ers, they can't force a team to trade up into their spot. There has to be a player teams want to move up for. McMillan may be that player.
According to Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz, McMillan has had visits with the Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints. Schultz also reported three additional visits are on the calendar for the Arizona star.
Some of those clubs are ahead of the 49ers and he could go off the board in the top 10. On the other hand, Dallas is one spot behind the 49ers which could create leverage if one of the Chargers, Seahawks or another team want to move up in front of the Cowboys to snag McMillan.
He joins a handful of players like Boise State University running back Ashton Jeanty and University of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders who could fall out of the top 10 and help the 49ers facilitate a trade down from No. 11 if that's the route they choose to go.
