This was pretty damn good and had one sequence that was one of those rare moments were I felt like the movie was lifting me out of my chair.

Coogler’s 5/5 as a director with his floor being very good and ceiling being flat out great. I want to do some film theory reading and see this at least one more time because as much as I liked it, I could tell while watching that there is all kinds of stuff that went over my head. Even with that said, right now, I’d call this the best of 2025 at this point.

Also, if you’re gonna check it out, there’s a mid-credit scene that seems like it really should have been the end of the movie. You’ll want to stick around to see it.

I cannot agree more. No time now, but I'll expound on this movie in a spoiler another time.

I’ve seen multiple stories all in the same vein - a good opening box office, but they’re being negative about the budget which really wasn’t that high

Original idea makes almost 50 million in this market and people are talking about the budget… which was only 90 million? Incredible stupidity and wouldn’t be surprised if this is coming from some kind of BS anti-woke ideological crap seeping through.

Saw this again today at the Chinese Theater IMAX. This movie is great. And that one sequence I mentioned earlier in that format was just freaking awesome

Read some speculation that the movie bosses are afraid that the deal Coogler made (share of ticket sales upfront, he owns the movie entirely after 25 years) will become a standard so some of the other studios wouldn't be upset if it didn't pan out.

Read another story today that the share of the audience that was black was 38% - tying it with Get Out as the blackest opening day audience ever.

That whole angle is stupid. There are a handful of directors who have this clout and that’s it. The idea that this is gonna become the norm is pure fantasy.

All I can give you is Deadline. lol

Movie is killing it.

‘Sinners’ Scores Second Best Monday For R-Rated Horror Movie At Box Office
Warner Bros‘ period horror movie Sinners had a great Monday earning $7.8M. That’s the second-best Monday ever for a R-rated horror movie after 2017’s It which did $8.76M, and it’s the third best Monday overall for a horror film after the PG-13 A Quiet Place Part II‘s Memorial Day ($9.5M) and It.

Sinners outpegged World War Z‘s Monday which did $7.6M. Sinners‘ Monday was even higher than that of Warner Bros’ first Monday for its fall blockbuster Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a PG-13 title, which grossed $6.2M after a massive $111M opening.

Running cume for Sinners is now $55.8M, while the global take is $75.5M.

Here's some love from Variety.

‘Sinners’ to Take Another Big Bite Out of Box Office, Ben Affleck’s ‘Accountant 2’ Aims for $25 Million Debut

“Sinners” looks to rule the box office again as three new movies open in North America.

Director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan’s R-rated vampire thriller is expected to enjoy another huge weekend with $25 million to $30 million in its sophomore frame. Last weekend, “Sinners” opened to $48 million, marking the biggest debut for an original film since 2019. So far, the horror film has generated $55 million domestically and $71 million internationally against a $90 million production budget.

Variety got torched for their first headline. Trying to make people forget about it

i'll be surprised if Accountant 2 makes that much. First one made 24.7 million, but that movie came out 7 years ago (I think) and movie-going habits just aren't what they were back then.

Part of the problem is by waiting 7 years many people will want to watch the first film again before seeing the second one in theaters.

That's exactly what happened when my wife saw the tailer for it before we watched A Working Man. She said it looked good but to really follow the story she'd want to see the first film again.

‘Sinners’ Lands First ‘A’ CinemaScore Ever For Horror Movie

Warner Bros’ Sinners is in rare air becoming the first horror movie ever to earn an A CinemaScore from audiences in the exit poll org’s 47-year existence.

Typically, CinemaScore audiences are hard on horror film: If you get anything in the B-range, that’s amazing (the first A Quiet Place earned a B+). If you’re a C, you’re even safe. Outside of that the anomaly A- grades went to Five Nights at Freddies, Get Out, The Lost Boys, The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, A Quiet Place Part II, Child’s Play 2. However, no other film but Ryan Coogler’s Sinners has notched an A.

Conservative estimates has this dropping 35% for a 30 million dollar second weekend, but I’ll be surprised if it’s not closer to high 30’s.

This is playing like Get Out on steroids, or maybe a slightly bigger Quiet Place. My guess is it tops out at around 215 million domestic, which is unheard of for an original idea these days. Some of its thunder will be swiped by Thunderbolts, but after that, there’s no real big movie hitting the theaters until Memorial Day weekend so it should have strong holds.

I’m also guessing Coogler’s got an entire cinematic universe coming as this has franchise starter, ala A Quiet Place, written all over it. It’s packed with questions about other stories with these characters, both big and small.

I can’t recommend it enough. It’s not just wildly entertaining, but it’s all that while bringing a lot interesting ideas at play. And the music is killer, as well. Definitely a big movie theater experience movie.

I really liked the undertones of this movie that really fleshed out what was already a great movie.

The depth of this movie, for me, was how the music was used to subjugate or "enslave" the characters by the oppressive white vampires. Now, don't get me wrong--I love Irish folk music--but there is no doubt that it is seen as white as music can get. It is also the basis for bluegrass music, which is also purebred white music. The white vampires using this music, to me, played out as if they were becoming the "masters," which added a layer of gross horror to the obvious horror. Rich story building and compelling cinema for me.

42 million dollar second weekend, down only 13% from opening weekend. That’s super rarified air for a 1st to 2nd weekend drop.

Also nabs 2nd biggest 2nd weekend for Horror all-time.

Scratch that… 45 million dollar weekend. Unheard of drop if only 6%. 215 million might be really conservative. This could be a 300 million dollar original movie domestic.
