Michigan State hockey just gained another shot in the arm, learning that they are going to be returning one of the best players in college hockey to their roster.

Isaac Howard, a Hobey Baker Award finalist and the reigning Big Ten Player of the Year, is reportedly coming back to East Lansing to play with Michigan State for his senior season.

Howard, a 2022 first round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning, was expected to join the Lightning after MSU fell in the NCAA Tournament, but according to a report from Elliotte Friedman, the team and Howard are not "simpatico on where everything stood at this time."

The Lightning's loss is the Spartans gain, and now one of the best players in college hockey will be taking the ice in East Lansing for one final season.

The fallout of this decision in Howard's pro career could loom to being traded to another NHL franchise, or potentially signing with another NHL franchise, considering that he will be considered an unrestricted free agent if left unsigned by next summer.

Howard joins goaltender Trey Augustine in making the crazy decision to rejoin Michigan State for 2025-26.
