Biggest Draft Bust In Arizona Cardinals History

I'm limiting this to the 30 draft seasons(hard to believe we're in our 30th season in Arizona) and it's no secret that this franchise has had some pretty high draft picks. We've had some successes(Larry Fitzgerald) and some failures(Jonathan Cooper) but of all of the failed 1st round picks we've ever had, which one was the biggest bust(first round only as we can debate the Cody Browns and LaVar Fishers until the cows come home).

Rosenbach had one season effected by injury(1991) but he came back in 1992 but he was a shell of his former self. I don't believe his knee injury effected his performance as much as it effected him mentally.

At first I thought Levi Brown just based on the fact that they missed out on Adrian Peterson. But at least they got something out of him. Cooper on the other hand...

I voted for Cooper. I find it difficult to believe that a broken femur ended a career where everything else was together.

It's a sad statement about Cardinals fans that Leonard Davis and Thomas Jones appear on this list. Even Levi Brown played 5 years and only missed a handful of games.

Clicked Bryant Johnson but intended Wendell Bryant.

First time I had seen 10 million dollars vanish in the timeframe of penning a signature. At the time we drafted him they did mention he had a finance major. I thought to myself, good he will still have money after his career ends. He was much smarter than I had thought. Basically 5-6 million seed money is all one needs to have a great life of romancing the bottle.

Placing those names close together tricks those who are visually and mentally impaired. I thought this was a handicap friendly site

I voted for Wendell Bryant in Arizona Cardinals history. But in my all time life as a Cardinal fan, the biggest bust has to be Clyde Duncan in 1984. I think he maybe played for 2 years and had less than 10 receptions.

Cooper, Knight and others at least battled some type of injury. Bryant signed and basically quit the next hour.

I went with Wendell Bryant. I was a St Louis Cardinal fan before they moved and if memory serves me right we drafted a kicker in the 1st round twice? I think 1 was John Lee out of Ucla and the other was out of Arkansas or Texas, Russell Erxleiban (sp) which would have to go down as the stupidest draft picks of ALL time for ANY team. Edit: the 1st kicker was Steve Little out of Arkansas, 1st round #15 overall *gasp* in 1978. The 2nd kicker was John Lee, 2nd round in 1986 from UCLA. Neither amounted to anything if I recall. I do remember the press cracking up both times at the picks. How embarrassing lol

God I feel bad bringing up Little, look up his Wikipedia page. Kicked 3 years for the Cardinals, was released and the same day got in a car wreck and broke his neck and became a quadriplegic. Lived in hospice with his brother until he died at 43 years old. I thought about terrible draft picks, but never knew this happened to him

torn between bryant and Lienart. Went with Leinart just because when you draft a qb #10 he should be a factor and he was not.

Id say Cooper just because Cooper was the highest rated out of all of them. Cooper was billed as a generational talent and was getting compared to HOF Guards.

I dont fault him for his injuries. However, even when healthy we saw that he washed out on the Browns and Pats. So he is in fact a bust.

Agree with you that Rosey and Wads couldn't over coming injuries. I'd add the same for Cooper and Hearst, who both flashed great ability early before disappearing following gruesome injuries.

IMO, the pick has to be Wendell Bryant, who really only played two seasons, and barely saw the field much of that time. Three games his third season, and out of the league for substance abuse issues before his 4th year even got started.

Dude was trash. Worst draft pick in the entire post-George Boone era of the Cardinals, and it ain't even close.

I voted for Matt he was so Touted and was so huge in college and just flat out sucked. I dont think a O line or Dline can get labeled tye biggesy bust. Matt flat out was a major dissapointment. He would have went #1 year before
