This team actually scored touchdowns. Yeah we got our asses handed to us late in the game and once again we couldn't get any presure whatsoever on the QB and we got no tunrovers BUT Blake was able to get this team in the endzone 3 times - no settling for field goal crap or anything like that. 24 points is above and beyond what I thought we'd put up with the youth we have at reciever, but Blake got them there in the first half. That was impressive to me - I won't talk about the second half because I want this post to be positive - keep scoring touchdowns and good things will eventually happen. Oh - and fire Hank Kuhlman for Pete's sake.

Who cares about Kuhlman, fire Marmie. I wanted him gone last year and if he isn't replaced, it costs Mac his job this year.

They will both be gone by year's end at this pace anyways.

hey...at least we got rid of rich olsen...granted sullivan had issues getting some plays called in - but if rich olsen was calling the plays it would have been way worse...

If they are both gone at the end of theseason - I think that means Mac's gone as well - not a bad thing mind if you if it plays out that way. Mac's loyalty to these guys and a certain QB who will go unnamed has always made me shake my head.

Agreed Beefy.

You gotta love Mac's heart but there was a lot out there on the field the went wrong that stems from Coach Mac. Who by the way looked like a deer in headlights from beginning to end in this game.

Mac is a great guy and all but this team has too much young talent to be wasted. Mac has to get this team discplined.

Peace

If Mac is not in almost total control of the defense (he was a career D-coordinator before being promoted, and knows nothing about running an offense) then he should be fired, because I don't know what he's spending his days doing.

Kuhlman deserves to be fired because he's been unable to get a young, healthy team ready to play for an important opening game, including Billy G. and S-dot-Player (whose punts were awful). If special teams doesn't drastically improve before this quarter of the season is over, he should be gone.

I think that Mac sticks this year out. Just a feeling. Unless home games are played in front of 19,000 or fewer fans, Mac'll remain. He might resign if Greene, Marmie, Kuhlman, and Sully are forced out, but that might be the only way he's out of here.

To also end on a positive note, the line in the paper from Kendall, on the false start penalties, weas classic:

Some guys were just going on rhythm. And we all know the rhythm method is not always foolproof.

To (God forbid) Replace Mac, we should get

Tom Coughlin. This is a young team who needs discipline. Coughlin isn't a great guy, but he molded a young team in J-ville into a championhip-caliber ballclub.

Hopefully, he'd bring some X's and O's and toughness to a club that has been mired in a personality-cult for the past three years.

Well - it's WAAYYYY to early in the season to do this, but you opened up the can of worms - Coughlin or Dennis Green are high on my prospective list.

Speaking of defensive playcalling, you know what one of my favorite sights is sports is, an offensive snap when all of a sudden seven or eight players come on a blitz. Even when your team is blitzing, it makes your stomach sink. It's like going over the big hill on the roller coaster.

Can you remember the last time you saw a 3-deep blitz where everyone is coming by the Cards? I can't. Even if you do it only once, and early, the QB has to remember seeing it coming.

We should bring it against the 'Hawks on the third play. Even if the pass goes for a TD, it'd be worth it.

Marmie's never impressed too much, and Mac stuck by him. That could end up costing him.

Hats off to Sully... first game, good results and I expect the results to improve.

Which were you more impressed with: The many needless time outs, or the delay-of-game penalties?

Cheese, Ouchie, and I could light up the Lions' cornerbacks. I'll be interested in seeing what happens against a decent secondary (at least) with Seattle.

What was the balance between rushes and passes? I don't know.

I didn't see a lot of strategy going on with the playcalling (i.e. running fake end-arounds to get them thinking about it, etc.), the plays they ran for the most part worked, but he could have been using the playbook from Madden 2004 for all the creativity with routes and stuff that I noted.

that's more questionable. that, and the fact that i'd be playing with a broken vertebrae, reconstructed knee, cracked face plate, slip left shoulder and degenerative right shoulder, all combine to persuade me to decline kerouac's offer. but with the right signing bonus . . .

We have to wait until tomorrow to sign you though. We can't guarantee your contract.

I didn't have the luxury of watching the game, so "game management" issues I can't see. I did see better offensive stats than we've had in a while.

They might be "just the lions", but we couldn't even score against "just the lions" last year.

Oh, understood. Well, I saw the game and, suffice it to say, the game management and strategy was sorely lacking.

That being said, against "just the Lions" we got a win last year, TDs or no.

MEMO TO: Rod Graves

Don't let this guy get away...

Ouchie-Z-Clown:

4.90+ in the 40
210 lbs++

He has a few years wear and tear on him, but reports have it that he is a gamer and enjoys downfield blocking (i.e.- ambushing a 5-8, 185 lb. corner who's back is turned). Know to be highly animated expert trash talker. Best of all willing to work for minimum.
