Update...... Anthony had a really good day today and is responding extremely well to everything they are doing and the doctors have started him on a feeding tube to get some protein in his system. Joey read an article about music therapy and he wanted to share Anthony and Sandra's song with all of you. Keep those prayers coming. More updates to come tomorrow.

BIG NEWS!!!!! At 3am this morning while Joey was in the room with Anthony he played all of Anthony's favorite songs by Journey, Billy Joel,..... Joey asked if it was ok to continue playing music and the nurse checked Anthony's blood pressure and the nurse said, "oh my gosh, his blood pressure is getting high, he's getting excited you need to stop". Lol!

. At 7:55am this morning the nurse did a neurological assessment and shut off all Anthony's machines to see how he would respond and to wake him up a little. Anthony did very well and was able to open his eyes and was able to respond to the nurse and Joey by squeezing their hands, wiggling his and the best part was "Think of Forest Gump, the movie ". Joey and Anthony's favorite movie, throughout their life they would always call each other "Jenny" so as Joey was squeezing his hand he yelled out "Jenny" and Anthony just shook his head, like telling his brother to shut up. Lol!

. Then he made a noise like he was trying to say something. The nurse at this time let Anthony know where he was and that his son was being taken care of and that his brother has been with him the entire time and that his friends and family have been sending him lots of love and prayers. At that time she let him that he would be going back to sleep so that he can continue to keep getting better. At 10:15am the nurse came in and let us know that they have taken him off all the blood pressure medication that he was on (3) and he is now maintaining his own blood pressure, Anthony has been on a special bed that continually moves him and they do that for 5 hours then turn him to lay upright for 1 hour and now because he is doing so well they will be having him rotate in bed for 2 hours then lay upright in bed for 4 hours today and if he does well with that they will have him in a regular bed by tomorrow. The nurse stated that it's incredible how much he has improved in such a short period of time. All our prayers and love is working so keep it coming. We will update again tonight.

So sorry for the late update..... the doctors have pin pointed that it was the pneumonia that has caused this unfortunate event and the doctor tonight stated that he probably works in a prime area to catch such a respiratory infection (Casino) because he works in a confined area that people are coughing and sneezing and of course he is touching a lot of money that has been through many people's hands. The doctors were hoping to get Anthony into a regular bed by today but it looks like it's going to be a couple more. The 2 pictures that are about brothers were actually sent to Joey by Anthony over the last year so Joey wanted to share with everyone. Joey would love for everyone that has a brother to share these with them to show how much you love them. Please see next post to explain more about the bed Anthony is in and what it is doing for him.....

More on the bed which is helping Anthony M Sapore aka Big Tony during his recovery. From his sister-in-law:
This bed is called the Rotoprone.... this high tech bed helps patients whose lungs have filled with fluid, these patients are put into a medically induced coma and strapped and buckled in from head to toe, the bed rocks back and forth to help allow fluid to drain which helps reduce pressure in the lungs. By keeping patients like Anthony in this bed doctors are able to keep him stable for a few days in order to get the medicines working. The doctors were hoping to get Anthony in a regular bed today but have decided that it may be another day or so. Anthony is really doing well and they are continually working to make him a little stronger before they move him off this bed. Thank you to everyone who has been praying and sending their support to Anthony and his family, We will update again tomorrow.

They still have him sedated because he is still on a ventilator to help him breath but the nurse tonight told us there is nothing she doesn't like about how he is doing, they are truly amazed at the progress he is making. So going forward they are going to slowly start getting him off the ventilator and start waking him up, but this will take some time. He has been responding to simple commands such squeezing the nurses or Joe's hands, wiggling his toes and he opens his eyes. Anthony is truly a miracle. . Please continue to keep Anthony in your hearts and prayers. Joey is still asking that while his brother is in ICU only immediate family visit. Doctors stated there is still to much of a risk to Anthony's progress due to so many viruses out there so it is still good to limit his visitors but we will continue to post updates daily of his progress.

So today while talking with Joey, he brought up that Anthony always talked about how one day he was going to do this or one day he was going to do that... well Anthony has always admired Joey's tattoos from the days Joey was in the Marine Corp and Anthony would say someday he would get a tattoo... so Joey has decided that that day has come, the day Anthony walks out of this hospital is the day Anthony gets his tattoo, be it the Cubs or the Cardinals, his brother is going to make sure Anthony can check that one off his list. Joey brought up a very good point that life is too short, you never know what the next day will bring and you certainly never want to have any regrets. So Anthony is about the same today which is good. The doctors are focusing on getting his lungs back to shape and working on slowly getting him off the ventilator. As the nurse put it...we will be taking baby steps.

The motto going forward is "slow and steady wins the race". Today we were told that Anthony's lungs were just a little worse today than they were 2days ago and are still filling up with fluid so they are continuing to keep him on the ventilator and giving him antibiotics and diuretics to help get rid of the fluid and get his lungs in shape again. But on a huge positive note, he was responding to questions that we asked him....I was standing by Anthony's bed and talking to the nurse when Anthony opened his eyes and started moving his head and when we asked him if we were being to noisy he shook his head no and then when we asked if it would be ok to keep talking he shook his head yes. It was truly a great thing to see.

He continues to be responsive with nodding yes and no to questions, we are even starting to see his sense of humor coming through, for example, when Joey whispered to him that when Anthony gets out they can spoon, Anthony shook his head no like crazy, all the nurses comment on what beautiful eye lashes he has, so even sleeping he's still a flirt. Lol! . Doctors still do not want visitors due to all the illnesses out there and with his immune system still very weak they don't want to take any chances. So please be patient as we don't want to take the chance or have any set backs, the doctors will let us know as soon as Anthony can receive visitors. Everyone have a great night and we'll have another update tomorrow.

Feb 3 - Anthony had a slight fever but nothing they were concerned about, his blood sugar is a bit high so they are giving him insulin and trying to get that under control and tomorrow he will have an MRI to take a look at his liver as they feel there might be something going on there or with his gallbladder so we will keep you informed on that. Because Anthony is doing well going forward we will start to post every other day. Thank you so much to all of you that have been keeping Anthony in your thoughts and prayers, we truly believe that has helped Anthony.

I'm a little behind with the latest update on Tony, but the good news is - his niece has created a GoFundMe campaign to help him with his financial needs extending from this lenghty hospital stay.

2/6/17 update..... The Super Bowl was on yesterday for Anthony but he continues to be heavily sedated so he slept through most of it, Joey told him about Kurt Warner and Anthony smiled. Joe shared a story with me about how Anthony is a true miracle starting from the day he was conceived....Anthony's parents were told once Joey was born they would not be able to have more children but his mother never believed that and being a devout Catholic she went to church everyday for 5 years and prayed to Saint Anthony to help give her another child hence the name Anthony. This morning I posted a GoFundMe campaign on Facebook to help raise funds for Anthony's growing medical and everyday bills...Anthony's niece Danielle did an amazing job telling Anthony's story and showing people how truly special Anthony is. . When I walked in the room and Anthony said "well hello gorgeous " I knew right there that was our Anthony and it was so good to hear him talk. Joey was also able to get Anthony all shaved and cleaned up, it was pretty cute to see, the whole time Joey was telling jokes and trying to get Anthony to smile and laugh and at times Anthony would just look at me and kind of roll his eyes but the best part was when he would look over at Joey, all you could see was how much he truly loved his brother. Doctor stated that his pneumonia is getting better but they will be keeping him on IV antibiotics for another week. Doctor also stated that they are going to get him going on physical therapy and hopefully get him up walking and moving around in the next couple days. All very positive things. Joey and I want to thank everyone who has been so generous and has been able to give to the GoFundMe account we have for Anthony. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him so your help is greatly appreciated. As you already know, the past 3 weeks have been incredibly challenging, but the weeks to come will be even more so. This week, he will be moved to a rehab facility where he will spend a couple of months, learning how to move and live like a normal person again.
A lot of people assume he's being taken care of through Workman's Compensation, however this is not the case, because the pneumonia that started this cannot be pinpointed to where he works. therefore ...........
Since being in the hospital Anthony has had no income coming in and while he is in rehab, he will still have absolutely no income and a lot of everyday bills to pay, such as.........
Mortgage, Homeowners Insurance,Electric, Gas, Water,Phone, Cell Phone, Car Payment, Car Insurance, credit cards, food, Etc......Plus being a Single Parent, His Son to Support.
