On FTB he just went off about Garcia's supension. He said to go down to Van Buren and get some crack and you get treatment, but you take a cold medicine and you get suspended. That was awesome. He just showed some heart.

How was Lewis showing his ignorance? He was right on the money on that.

What?????
Right on the money??? Surely you've got to be joking.
Ephedra is not "just a cold medication".
Again, I will state, as I did on the Garcia thread.
Anyone who thinks a pro football athlete is taking Ephedra, a weight loss, energy boosting, performance enhancer, and claims he was "just taking a cold medication". Is either ignorant of what the drug really does, or is terribly, terribly naive....if not both.

EPHEDRA HAS BEEN PROVEN AGAIN AND AGAIN TO BE A VERY LIFE THREATENING DRUG NOT JUST IN FOOTBALL.
Learn your facts.

And Crack is not? Lewis' diatribe was on the fact that you get a warning for first use of illegal coke, which is far more dangerous than ephedra, while Frank gets 4 games for taking a legal, OTC cold medication.

I won't argue with you over the dangerous effects of the drug but I wonder why it is in so many cold or allergy medicines? If it is that dangerous in the quantities that are in these pills wouldn't the FDA ban it?

As to the NFL policies it is between the NFL and the players union to negotiate the extent and types of punishment. I also beleive that the star treatment does come into play. I don't think J Rice or B Favre would ever be suspended for taking cold or allergy medication.

There is controversy over the Ephedra safety issue. Not everyone agrees with Tango's assesment.

PLEASE, try to be a bit more rational!!!!

Fact: Ephedra is illigal in the NFL.
Fact: Garcia took Ephedra.
Result: Garcia gets suspended.

End of story!!!!

Who cares about what the penalty for using cocaine or smoking pot is. It still doesn't chance the fact that Garcia broke the rules.

His test was positive because he took his wife's allergy prescription and not an Over the counter cold medication. Did anyone read Jim O's post? Tango is right. You don't take other people's prescriptions. The NFL crack policy is stupid. Coke is deadly, just ask Len Bias if he'll talk back to you. All drug violations should be treated the same. Coke and weed should be a suspension as well.

You ever taken Suphedrine? It's an over the counter cold & allergy medicine.

If you take it, yer screwed.

The ephedra that he took was in a medicine like this. Many of the anti-histamines have some ephedra in them.

If this is true!!

Then maybe they should take it outuv cold medicine!! don't cha think??

I firmly believe everyone is responsible for there own actions and Garcia made a mistake that is going to cost him dearly.

What is stupid is the punishment is way to harsh. If Boston did test positive for Coke and just gotta warning then that is what should have happened with Garcia IMO. You can't tell me that ephedra is more dangerous than Coke. Helluva lot more people have died from ODing on coke vs ephedra.

I only used DB as an example and could care less who the individual was. Basically what I am getting at is the punishment should fit the crime.

Stupin NFL rule.... Stupid that Garcia used his wifes medicine.

I totally agree. It's pretty clear that something is wrong with NFL's handling of ephedra use vs. cocaine use, but that doesn't change the fact that Garcia took ephedra.

Just a thought.. Ephedra is catagorized as a performance enhancing drug, while cocaine is not (eventhough it is). NFL is a league of professional sport, which is why using ephedra is more serious than using cocaine from a league standpoint. Am I on to something?

Did you read Jim O's post? Apparently not:
Garcia called the trainers and asked if he could take NyQuill. He took it once...no relief. He took it twice...no relief. It is then, without permission, that he took his wife's over the counter medicine.

He didn't take anyone's prescription medicine. He took an OVER THE COUNTER medicine.

I see ignorance has danced it's way into this thread and is flapping it's gums again.

I had a dream the other night, that ignorance had danced it's way to another city...away from our lovely message board...danced like it was running to some misplaced lover.

I understand where you are coming from but from my point of view there should be zero tolerance for both ephedra and cocaine. Ephedra for the performance enhancements and danger while Cocaine for the serious danger. Also kids look up to these athletes.

I think a couple of important points keep getting obfusticated with "side issues" here.

First of all, as I see it, the primary, and unavoidable fact here is that Ephedra is a banned substance by the NFL. There has been more than sufficient research done to demonstrate that it has some properties that are life threatening. Particularly when used by an athelete as a performance enhancer.
Ask Kory Stringer.
But it doesn't even really matter whether any of us agree with that or not, and whether it should be an illegal substance or not.

The NFL says it is illegal. It may not be fair, but it is a fact. The players know that. This isn't some "secret" issue that no one knows about.
The guys who make the choice to use it , do so knowingly. Knowing also that it is illegal, and if they get caught they will be penalized for it.
Garcia knew that. I don't believe for a second that he just unknowingly took his wife's medication. Please don't insult my intelligence, expecting me to buy that obvious excuse. What else do you expect him to say?
He chose to use it. He got caught. Now he will pay the price for that. Fair or unfair is a moot point.
It doesn't matter whether you agree with a law or not.
It is law.
And if you break it and get caught, the "the catchers" are gonna get you, and make you pay a price for it.
We can all, break any law we want at any time we want. But in choosing to do that we have to take the responsibility for our own actions and for paying the price "if caught".
If you don't like a law, get it changed. Don't just break it and cry foul when you are caught.

Personally I think he was incredibly ignorant. Now he's gonna pay for it. C'est la vie.

and BTW,
Chris Sanders.....LOL, you are about as subtle as odiferous, excreted methane gas.

I will give you a star for your forehead for your attempt at literary style. Now...do you have anything to say that is actually germaine to the topic here?
