A few years ago I used to find him somewhat charming, but during last night's game, Bill was really annoying the hell out of me. When he's not being a "my word is gold" know-it-all, he's alternately heaping praise on or slamming players. It's hard to keep up with his opinions on players when one minute he is glowing about them, and the next he is nit-picking them to death. He must have ripped into Jim Jackson about 15 times during the game - I wanted to strangle him!!! And Mike Breen is completely bland and just plays along with Walton and never challenges him. Why couldn't they get Tirico and Tolbert? I love those guys together!!

Bill Walton really has gotten worse this season. I still don't mind him talking with the analysts in the studio, but watching a game with his comment trading is just awful. I had to mute him last night. I just couldn't take it.

Bill Walton is the John Madden of basketball.. Just the master of the obvious who just keeps on repeating the same points constantly..over and over again.. Plus, he never gives the Suns credit whenever they actually were playing well...

As I said in chat lastnite...

Bill Walton: "Luke, I'm not your father!".....

It was funny during the first half he was railing us and praising the Spurs the whole time. Then when we took the lead he was so shocked he was actually speechless for about 1 minute. Like "Huh, the Suns are winning?"

Too bad we lost it in the 4th and made the moron look right.

Walton pulls for the leader. I've seen times when he was ranting about greatness of a team only to actually view the game and find the team down by 20 points.

I always envisioned his counter part covering his mike and telling him to watch whats happening on the court because he making an ass out of himself.

Of course, how can you make yourself into an ass when you were already born one...

Bill Walton's GREATEST comment of all time:

Balzers v. Lakers - end of the season:

"This has been the WORST offensive execution by the Blazers in the HISTORY.. of.. the... (and he paused and then continued) N... B... A."

And that was with the Blazer UP 4 100-96 with a minute left.

That was classic. My buddies(Laker fans) and I sat there and as he was saying it looked at each other as if to say is he really gonna say it? Is he really gonna say it - and boom - IN THE HISTORY OF THE NBA. Classic.

He used to do color on the Clipper broadcasts and I used to laugh because there was a point in every game that he said that Michael Olowakandi was the best center in the NBA.

Now the best center is (Mark West clone) Nazr Muhammed.

It seems verything is extremes with Walton and nothing is consistent (other than "Richard Jefferson...so atheletic"). I've never heard somone use so many hyperboles but you'd think every game he calls has the worst/best players in the game.

Walton used to have a speech impediment, it's surprising that he is even on the air. I personally like Bill because he always jocks former Wildcats.

Although I must say that one of my favorite Waltonisms was during one of the regular season Suns/Spurs games where Nesterovic left the game with an injury. Walton noted that Nesterovic was being carted out of the arena in a wheel chair. He said something like, “Wow, they’re taking him out on a wheelchair, that can never be a good thing.” A lot of the humor is in his delivery.

I used to hate his “greatest in NBA history” lines. I mean even minor plays and second-rate players would get a greatest history play or greatest player in NBS history remark. But I’ve learned to enjoy them because they’re so absurdly over the top.

some that really get to me are:

"back in my days"
"we are witnessing____ and _____" (or some form of that)
"there is no need for that" (the horry falldown)
"this is the best i've seen them all season" (what out of 3 times you actually watched a suns game?)
"steve nash is not athletic"

Here's what might be going on in his head, surring a suns game:

Opening tip: "man, i could have gotten that one"
in the first quarter: "i wonder when the next grateful dead show is"
at least once, every quarter: "RICHARD JESSERSON!!!" (picture his voice yelling that to himself)
second quarter: " i can't beleive i have this job, i know nothing about the suns"
third quarter: "robert horry is one of the best shooters of all time in basketball"
fourth quarter: "man, Luke owes me back rent"

Has anyone else noticed that "untenable" is his favorite word now? That was a cool word two years ago. :D

I actually like Walton when the teams that are playing are ones that I have no interest in. His mindless droning is acceptable when the game is boring.

And he is OK when the Suns aren't playing the Spurs-if your a Suns fan.

I think the best is Hubie Brown. He's very smart and seems to have a good feel for what the viewer may need to know. I feel I actually learn something when he is the analyst.

The guy is a jackass on air, I'm sure he is a nice guy off camera though.

I could not stand last game when he said three or four times that Nash is the MVP, what does it say about a team that struggles to get the MVP the ball on an inlet pass. Whatever Bill!

My old band named our last cd after one of Bills descriptive comments: "Erratically Flailing". He kept saying that during a Suns vs Blazers game describing the Suns going to the hoop.

As nice a guy as he may be, I just can't stand him.

One of my best friends and cousin in law sued to be really close with Richard Jefferson and Luke Walton while they were at UofA. She said they'd get back to their place after partying all night and absolutely holw and rag on Luke if there was a message on his machine from his father. They said the messages Bill would leave would be just as ridiculous as the stuff you hear him say about basketball. I would LOVE to hear just one of those messages.

Can you imagine if Luke told his father he got a C in a class. "Luke, that is the WORST grade... in the history of the U... OF... A."

used. I guess that would be kind of weird if she sued to be closer to them - esepcially if she won!

I don't think he's totally serious about most of the things he says. Personally, I just listen to him as a comic relief type with a high basketball intellect.

I mean, he is one of the 50 Greatest Players, and you don't achieve that kind of honor without knowing the game of basketball. His attitude about the game sounds like that of a player who is actually in the game. When things are going badly, you really can feel like the worst team in the history of the NBA. And when things are going well, vice versa.

The guy knows he's exaggerating when he says things, so if you get angry when he uses some obvious hyperbole, you're just overreacting a little bit. After all, would you really care what his opinion on Robert Horry was if the Suns were up 2-0? I can understand why you'd find Walton annoying - he does sound like a complete burnout - but if he was saying, "The Suns are just completely dominating the Spurs; Tony Parker looks completely lost out there next to Steve Nash," you guys would probably be thinking, "Damn, he's kind of annoying, but he's got a point."

I think Walton is entertaining because he's different from everyone else. If every game had him it'd be too much. But, I didn't mind Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football.
