Where did I misuse the quote function? You'll have to explain what you think is so clever about your other reference if you want anyone else to understand it.

Since Ozzie Newsome is generally regarded as one of the top GM's, it will be interesting to see how they handle this coaching change.

Given their divisional history with Pittsburgh, it will be telling if they bring Grimm in for an interview. What happened in Baltimore could effect us more than we might think.

I guess I mean "within the last seven years."

In 8 years, Billick was 72-63. Not exactly a stellar record considering the defense he had. With even a mediocre offense during that time the Ravens probably would have won 1 or 2 more Super Bowls.

Yep, "genius' Ozzie Newsome fails to get any decent young QBs, year after year, and Billick takes the fall.

Billick won a super bowl with Trent Dilfer at QB. The man can coach. He won't be unemployed for long, unless he wants a break.

Probably was, he called the plays not Neuheisel at least that's what I'm reading in Neuheisel stuff since UCLA hired him.

or as Don Maclean said during the UCLA win over UC Davis in basketball "your offense would suck too if Kyle Boller was your QB!"

Russ, I heard somewhere that Neuheisel is trying to get Norm Chow to come to UCLA with him. Have you heard this?

He may have lost a coaching job, but he'll probably be on Coors light commercials next year.

Hold on there. Billick was the vocal proponent of Boller, and supposedly talked them into trading up for him.

Then he publicly trashed him, cut him and said the team would be better with Elvis Grbac. Great move by Billick.

Skkorp the guy is (supposed to be) an offensive coach. Newsome kept him his job for years by bringing in great D coordinators that carried the team.

How can you trash Newsome and then praise Billick for winning a ring with Dilfer? Why dont you be honest and say he won one with Ray Lewis, Peter Boulware(sp?), McAllister, Rod Woodson, Sam Adams, Tony Siragusa, Shannon Sharp, Sam Adams, Rob Burnett, Jon Odgen, Jamaal Lewis, Jermaine Lewis, Jamie Sharper and Todd Heap. How on earth can you defend Graves all the time and then blast Newsome for assembling the best D many of us have ever seen???????? It is tough getting a franchise QB when your team is drafting in the late 20s every year.

Billick is a good coach

Crap happens and it seems the blame falls on him, but I would be more than comfortable if Billick coached my team. That said...8-8 for the Cardinals...I love the Whiz from Oz!

Hey, stout and crdsfnmd, we just see the Baltimore situation differently.

Ozzie Newsome was completely, 100% responsible for putting that team together. Trying to pass some of that off to Billick is excuse making, I believe.

Of course Ozzie might have listened to Billick's input. Yet, the final decision is always Ozzie's.

Right here, Rod Graves listens to what his coaches want too, but in the end, if the decisions are bad, it's on Graves. And you make very sure to hold responsible Graves 100% responsible every time. Okay.

Either Ozzie is or is not responsible for assembling his team. This picking out of a consistent pattern by the GM of neglecting to bring in young QB talent and foisting it on the coach seems like blame transference.

Renz, didn't Billick go 13-3 in 2006, an all-time franchise record? So a year later, he suddenly turns into a bad coach?

Look, maybe the Ravens did need a change. Maybe the players quit listening to Billick. We may never know.

It's okay to disagree. I like the guy.

They probably wanted to start over again. That team's best players are getting old.McNair,Mason,Ogden,McGahee(he just seems old),and Lewis are all on the downside of their careers.

Ozzie Newsome comes out of this one with a Teflon suit. He blew it on the QB/WR acquisitions ( non acquisitions ). The McNair signing turned out as disastrous as the Trent Green signing. Aging , damaged goods, free agent signings. Knowing that Boller has failed his extended tryout, McNair is done with one desperate year left in the tank ( which did not happen ), Ozzie drafts Troy Smith, a midget Heisman winning QB as the heir apparent. Fortunately for Ozzie, there are 10 QBs in the upcoming draft who have better upsides than their current crop of disasters.

The WR corps is anemic at best. McGahee runs up against stacked defenses that dare the Ravens to pass. Billick may be a pompous, acerbic ass, but for an offensive minded coach, Ozzie Newsome gave him a bad deck of cards. Newsome gets the free pass and Billick gets the door.

They may have fired the wrong guy or not enough guys.

I'm not sure what he'll cost in terms of compensation but Derek Anderson might be an obvious choice. Would the Ravens dare swallow their pride and reacquire him?

Newsome may not be he second coming of Christ, but he is far from bad as a GM IMO. He has brought a lot of talent in to Baltimore. They have a very good O-line every year and he kept the D stacked for years.
