If they sign Kolb he will start with the Buffhoes, no brainer. Yall can hate but just wait...I have Kolb ranked as a 99% efficient passer and one of the top 10 QBs of all times. :p

I watched Marrone perform magic @ Syracuse when they had absolutely nothing when he arrived there. People are underestimating where the Bills franchise is heading. They have solid people running the show now. Buffalo will be a perennial playoff team sooner rather than later. If he stays healthy, and that's a big if, this is a great move for Kolb.

If he can just keep random knees from brushing up against his helmet, I reckon he'll be ok.

While in a number of ways I question why Doug Marrone wants to hitch his new wagon to Kevin Kolb, the way he and his staff went about this signing is highly commendable.

They went down last weekend to spend time with Kolb---to see where his head was---and to gauge his interest in the Bills.

Then they invited Kolb up to Buffalo for a second round of interviews and at that point got the deal done.

Without question, one of the real selling points to Marrone must have been the tape of Kolb's week 2 performance at New England. Kolb was not sensational in that game---but he was efficient as a game manager. I imagine that marrone thought that if Kolb could handle himself this well in New England, then he's worth the shot.

As for Kolb and the Cardinals---MJ has been saying for quite some time that the players in the locker room would roll their eyes at the fact that Kolb was out for as long as he was with his injuries.

While there is conjecture that Kolb was given an offer to stay in Arizona at a reduced salary---one has to wonder whether that was ever the case at all.

Ever since BA was hired, there were crickets on the Kolb situation---

We know that MB wanted the new HC to do all he could to see whether Kolb was the right QB moving forward---the best bet is---BA watched the tapes, sensed what Kolb's reputation was in the locker room, gauged his medical history and decided that it was time to move on.

What I wonder is---having been paid over $20M in two years and over $30M for the past three years, is why, at least to anyone's knowledge, Kolb didn't reach out to the Cardinals to offer to reduce his salary for this season. If Kolb truly wanted to return the Cardinals' prodigious investment in him with some good favor---he could have been more than willing to initiate the discussion.

The irony is---had he done so and MB was able to convince BA to do his best to revive Kolb's career, Kolb would be making more money this year than he will in Buffalo---remember his deal in Buffalo is a MAX $13M---you just know that for him to reach the MAX he must meet the substantial incentives in that contract---tied to playing time and production.

When the numbers come out, my guess is that his base salary for this year is under $5M.

That's a good as any segue into the Carson Palmer situation in Oakland. They were generous enough to want Palmer back at $10M---

But, that's not good enough for Palmer? Not good enough for the team that invested so heavily in him?

Just like Kolb---what this now means is that Palmer is going to make considerably less by getting released.

Palmer is a strange duck.

He threatened to retire if the Bengals didn't trade or release him---how does that speak to loyalty?

Now he wants out of Oakland---$10M for the season isn't good enough.

He wanted Oakland because he prefers the West coast---but that's not good enough for him now---he still wants West coast, but...

Word is he's fine with being a backup for a contender?

That means SF or SEA.

I tell you what---if the Cardinals are genuinely interested in Palmer, they should do what Marrone and his coaches did with Kolb---go spend a couple of days with him and if that goes well, bring him to Arizona to work out a deal.

But---do they really have to convince this guy he should want to remain a starter?

Weird. Just plain weird.

Literally to see where his head was. With all the shots he took to the head any team interested in him should have spent time with him to check for residuals.

I can still remember KK running backwards in the pocket due to being afraid of being hit. When he did start hanging in the pocket and stepping up in it he took a beating. I think he is still shell shocked and Buffalo will not be a good place for him especially with the cold weather.

Marrone's offense is a much better fit for Kolb. QB's will take shorter drops & get the ball out much quicker in Marrone's scheme. It may be colder in Buffalo once November rolls around, but Kolb will not get hit nearly as much so it won't matter how cold it is. Seriously, I would MUCH prefer Marrone to BA, but Marrone is an East Coast kind of guy.

Maybe you are correct. Play action, roll outs and short routes will help him to stay upright. We will see.

I will give the Bills the benefit of the doubt due to your endorsing Marrone.

Semi OT: if two QB starved teams in Oakland and Buffalo are trading for/signing Flynn and Kolb, both of whom are on two-year fairly lucratice deals, it doesn't say much about the rookie QB class as a whole. IMO, I don't think either picks Geno in the 1st round. I do think Buffalo picks Nassib in the later rounds due to relationship with Marrone.

How does this guy keep getting paid when he hasn't done anything in this league? Blows me away!

YCoach Arians indicated that the present CBA prevented him from sitting down with Kolb in a timely fashion. He'll have a better O-line and running game going into this season, compared to what was afforded him last.

Can't see why Palmer owed the Cinncy zoo any career long loyalty after years of yeoman service, and given that he's already restructured twice in Oakland I can see why he'd balk at a third with a pay cut.

I've been wondering about that?

From the standpoint of (1) what's in the best interest of the player and (2) what's in the best interest of the club - why did they stick into the CBA a clause preventing QB's & coaches (or at least new QB's and new coaches) from not getting together whenever they need to do so? This is insane. Am I missing something?

Perhaps because they didn't want the reduced practice time to be offloaded into a cerebral minicamp before the real minicamp/training camps. At least that's my guess. If they did that they could concentrate on harder practices with less cerebral time.

I do agree the unintended consequences are that it makes for insane situations when it comes to things like this. But since I wanted Kolb gone, imo it was a good thing.

Gotcha - but why not exempt QB's (or at least QB's new to the team or a new offensive system)?

Well, I hope Kolb has a great year and career with the Bills. He could use a break. Besides it will be typical Cards' luck if he turned out to be all we hoped he would be for someone else.

They might have messed that up with it being a new situation, and perhaps that's refined in the next offseason or two.
