Since it's that time of year... I have been indulging in the world's best sandwich, but having a bit of a problem -- even the heirloom tomatoes, which used to be the only things that tasted like tomatoes, suck.
They're all greenhouse and hydroponic, I guess, since they're sold all over the place now, and they taste as blah and non-descript as those awful euro tomatoes-on-a-vine things. I finally sprang for a couple organic heirloom tomatoes (didn't dare look at what I paid for them) and they were pretty good, but... those things are awfully pricey.
any one know of a farmer's mkt or other location for REAL tomatoes?? The juicy ones that have that sweet-tart balance?
While I'm at it, I'm sick of paying $2 a pound for peaches that have a dry, mushy, tasteless texture when 'ripe'. Why do they grow this junk, and why do we keep buying it?
