Boone Jenner(3,4), Kirill Marchenko(27), Dante Fabbro(6), Denton Mateytchuk(4), and Mathieu Olivier(17) provided the goals for the Blue Jackets. Meanwhile, Elvis Merzļikins could only stop 31 of 37 Vancouver shots in a 7-6 shootout win against the Canucks.
There's only one word to describe this game - Insane.
After going down 3-0 after the first period, the Jackets came storming back in the second to tie the game at three. But after the second, the Canucks would hold a 4-3 lead.
The third period of this game turned to complete chaos. After the Canucks took a 5-3 lead, Columbus would make it 5-4 just 21 seconds later. Later in the period, the Blue Jackets would score twice in 22 seconds to take a 6-5 lead. But even after that, most people knew this game wasn't over. Merely 23 seconds after the Jackets took the lead, Vancouver would tie it at 6, where it would stay tied. The game would see no goals scored in OT, so they were off to a skills challenge to determine a winner.
In typical Elvis Merzļikins fashion, he stoned all three Canucks shooters to seal the victory for the CBJ.
Dante Fabbro said of the game, "Almost had a heart attack a couple times." He would also say, “Coming in after the first, honestly, we were like,'We’re coming back. There’s no way we’re losing this game.'"
The Blue Jackets are back in wild card two and tied with Montreal and the New York Rangers with 75 points.
