It would be horrible news if we're thinking of drafting this guy.

I think there really is no story here, concerning certian people at pro days. This goes for the whole NFL not just us.

Because there is no CBA right now during a period when GM's, Head coaches, and Owners would be at home bringing in free agents they now have a ton of free times on their hands. Meaning you will see a lot of these guys out and about at pro days they would normally not be at.

This is great news. The Cards need to know all they can about this guy so if the CBA is not worked out soon and the Cards need to select a QB they will have as much info as possible.

If you need a QB and are in position to select a franchise QB you should know all you can about the guys available (Gabbert and Newton) so you can decide if they are that type of QB or not.

I wonder if this is what Mr B did when the Cards selected fellow Mizzou alum Steve Pisarkiwiez in the 70's? :D We all know how great he was...

we are pulling out all stops to convice teams we are interested in a QB when really we just want a trade down partner for more picks.

IMO thats a bad thing...give me quality over quantity anyday!!!

The best players are generally at the top of the draft & teams are even rolling the dice that someone they are eyeing at a later spot is still on the draft board. Hopefully the Cards have learned their lesson from the Suggs fiasco in years past.

Depends on how thin your roster is. If a team needs multiple upgrades at multiple positions then some quantity is called for. If team however has a fairly strong team then adding a quality player is more important, someone to put them over the top.

Where do the Cards fit into the above scenarios? Some would argue that we need 3 O-linemen, 2 or 3 LBers, 1 or 2 TE's just to get decent on those units. I think we need a LT, SOLB, SILB and a TE make these units respectable/good. I like what Dawg did in his draft by getting Houston and Smith (LT). I like that better then 1 player in the top 5, unless that player is a QB. ;)

I would argue that this years draft class is FAR deeper and talented then the year Suggs was drafted. So instead of reaching for Pace and Skillet hands there will be high quality players at positions of needs later in rd1.

That's exactly the situation this year. Suggs was more of a question mark coming out of college because his combine wasn't great. I remember he ran a slow (like 4.9) 40 and people were worried about his speed as a pass rusher. If you watched him play at ASU as many of us did, you knew it wouldn't matter because he was a natural pass rusher and great player.

Miller is the same, only he has the measurables and had a stellar combine. He will be a great player I think (always a gamble though).

I just want to say "Draft Ryan Mallet". Strong arm and make all the throws. Showed in College he is a Qb that can handle pressure and can bring a team back. He might not be mobile, but he sure can throw the ball deep and with accuracy. He is more Pro ready than the rest of them. He should fit in just fine with what the Cardinals want to do on offense.

Won't matter if Carolina takes him, which I think will happen.

+2

I don't think we're really interested in him personally, this is probably just a smoke screen.

You have to remember what time of year this is, it's like a liars poker festival.

For the sake of bumping...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2011/news/story?id=6228384

The receiving corps from Division II schools Central Missouri and Northwest Missouri State and Lindenwood of the NAIA had three drops. But at least one of the crew -- wide receiver Jamorris Warren -- turned enough heads to earn an invite to private team workouts, including an Arizona Cardinals' session next week in Columbia where he will again play catch with Gabbert.

Interesting that we are having a private session in Columbia where Gabbert is throwing and 2. that with Whiz's love for late round small school guys, Jamorris Warren should be considered a possible draft/UDFA prospect for us now.

If we want Gabbert we are going to need to trade up. He is our pick if he is there at 5. Carolina will take him. Things are working out just as I thought they might. Gabbert was taking the snap from under center on most every throw today. Answered the question of whether he has good foot work. They said it was exceptional. With Luck not coming out I always felt he would be the top Qb and possibly the #1 overall to the Panthers.

You are right. No way will Gabbert fall to #5. If the Panthers don't pick him then the Bills at #3 or Bengals at #4 will. Additionally, someone could also trade up to get him.

Yeah, I guess if we have a shortened season we should let Skelton get experience and tank it for the Andrew Luck Lottery in the next draft. That is the only way we will get the QBOF that most teams need to have long term success. Gabbert could be that kind of guy and one of those teams will get him.

I like the idea of Newton or Gabbert as our first pick. I also adore the idea that Skelton should start, Palmer/Kolb/Orton all come with more than a pricetag. Alex Smith is in their league IMO and will only cost us cash.

I don't consider Skelton starting as tanking and I think Luck is an absolute impossibilty. Even if we start Skelton I say we end up with a better record than this year. If Skelton and the Cards go 7-9 with Skelton at the helm, ( just my guess) Than I would probably have to give him another year, and this is all with either Newton or Gabbert still chillin. Best case scenario is Skelton pans out, and we charge somebody up the ass for Newton/Gabbert. Worst case scenario is Skelton gets a lot of time on the field and we know what's up, we can then roll with either Newton or Gabbert. I still like the cokehead too.(Mallet)

I love dreaming out loud, it really helps during this lockout junkola. :D
