I posted in an earlier thread that Kemp is no fan of the Cardinals -- so I consider any positives he notes to be truly earned-

his observations:

1. Wisenhunts coaching staff is all business -- in contrast to the "country clubs" run by Green and McGinnis. Kemp noted that he corroborated his impression on this with several other members of the media.

2. Matt Leinart is throwing the ball with significantly more zip and accuracy than at this time last year. Kemp noted he was tempted to note this yesterday, but wanted to get one more look and ask other people. They confirmed his observation.

3. Keep an eye on Ben Patrick. Has had a very good camp thus far.

4. Early Doucet is now pushing Breaston for #3 WR -- Kemp expects him to get there by opening day.

5. Hightower continues to impress -- best burst to the line of all the Cardinal backs. Pass pro will be a challenge. Would have gotten Leinart killed during a play this morning had the action been live.

the concerns:

1. If Breaston goes down -- they have no kick returners on the team -- especially because....

2. JJ Arrington is running 4th string and Kemp expects him to be cut.

-- Arrington's legend continues to grow

-- Did he mention Steve Baylark at all? He's the one taking reps from JJ right?

-- First time I've heard much about Early so far. Either way, too many good receivers is a great problem to have.

Marcel Shipp has returned kicks.

We also still have our #1 punt returner from 2003 on the team. He returned 20 punts for a 6.5 average.

;)

Kemp also noted that Whis's camps have not been physical, and that there's been no hitting really that he's seen so far. Very little contact.

Also, Levi Brown had a false start in practice today.

I vote for Antrel Rolle as punt returner...and would like to see him and Stevie Breaston share the duty. Rolle, as we saw last year, has an uncanny ability to make people miss in the open field.

I remember your report on that Cuse, thanks!

oh you're welcome. for some reason, when i saw him returning them, i had images of deion. it might have been the #21, but his swagger back there just reminded me, despite not having near the speed of deion.

I don't. Breaston did fine. I don't want someone out there returning punts that we need to be on the field when we are on defense. If he gets hurt, "We can play Aaron Francisco!" Francisco is a liability in coverage IMO. Hell Breaston, at best, will be the #4 receiver, once again IMO.

With one word of caution:

If Antrel demonstrates consistently the game-breaking skills he displayed in a couple of games last year as a nickel back/safety, I wouldn't want to expose him to the additional risk of injury in a return role.

Bob Kemp just referred to Tim Hightower as his "favorite runningback." I was pretty surprised.

I'm skeptical about Hightower still, but that was an interesting note.

If you don't have someone else to do it, sure. So we sit the first guy to return a punt for a TD in 14 years? For a guy that's a starter on the defense with knee problem history?
