Is there any consensus as to which of these two players is ready to start? Both selected in the fourth (??) round of two different drafts, and I know Massie has an edge in experience, but he is playing a tougher position. Anyone have a feel for these guys?

None.

Earl Watford is expected to beat out Paul Fanaika this offseason, and if he cannot that is a red flag, IMO.

Bobby Massie?

I don't know about Massie and the new regime. They played him a bit last season as an extra TE, and this season it would make sense that he starts at RT if he is as good as one would expect at this point and time.

I think Massie's situation will be more telling because I believe the Cardinals will sign/draft his replacement if he is not in the plans.

Watford we are going to have to wait till preseason to find out what is going on there.

I'm excited about both of them.

It's their year to stand up and make that move.

Let's hope they both have that in them.

Because if they don't this FO will move on without them.

That's funny that you mention it because I had the thought that it might be a competition between the two of them in camp. They don't play the same position, but we know they're not both starting, due to the inexperience. So maybe it comes down to whichever one looks better is the one that starts. Then plug in vet to play next to him.

If I had to bet on it, I might go with Watford. But if I was really being honest with myself and I had to bet my life on it, I would go with neither.

For Massie is the third year
If he wont start is not due the lack of experience but just because is not really well considered by the staff

Seeing as this coaching staff influenced the drafting of him, I think Watford is held in higher regard.

I agree. Massie won't be on the team when his current contract expires. If that long. The Cards have 165 years of offensive line coaching experience. If they think Massie isn't good enough to beat out a 30 year old free agent on his third team in just three seasons Massie isn't long for the AZ.

Of course its my fault for talking about how good he looked in 2012. :(

I just cannot see how Massie fell so far off the radar. After his rookie season, multiple outlets (not just the team) were raving about his promise and skill. I just don't see how that talent can disappear once the new coaching staff arrived. I hope he returns to the form from the end of his rookie year.

Because a lot of a player's chance to succeed in the NFL does not only on their talent, but on the time and place. One staff likes a guy, the next staff doesn't and he disappears. If a player has average NFL talent, that sort of makes all the difference.

I think Massie starts this year. The only way he doesn't is if the Cards draft Taylor Lewan in the first round or they bring back Eric Winston. Massie looked very good in 2012 and I thought he would have been the starter last year. He is more athletic than Winston.

I'm convinced that a veteran OT will be added if there isn't one drafted in the higher rounds. Massie will most likely get first shot at starting, but with a veteran pushing him. Winston is the most likely candidate, but other options could be David Stewart, Bryant McKinnie, Ryan Harris, Sean Locklear or Tony Pashos.

Let's hope whatever message the coaching staff is sending Massie is sinking in and he is responding in a positive way. There are no reports of his offseason work out or commitment to working out, so we will have to wait and see.

The guy has the talent as we all could see.

Can he get his head straight and figure it out?

That could very well happen. The coaching staff said last year that the thing that held Massie back was his head. He was making too many mental errors. Hopefully with a full year to grasp the offense he has his head on straight. Bringing in a vet to back him up and compete would be a smart thing to do if for nothing else to push him and make him play harder.

There's also the whole roster counting to take into account. The number of O-linemen on an active roster is typical 9 or 10.
If that number is 10 - one player is missing. If only nine spots are available I sure hope a veteran is brought in to compete with Potter (note that Winston is still listed on the roster on azcardinals)

C: Sendlein
C/G: Ted Larson
G: Cooper, Fanaika & Watford
T: Veldheer, Sowell, Massie & Potter

Cardinals typically dress 7 lineman on gameday.

If the team isn't sure which of the two is more game ready a first round selection of the ND tackle, Martin, would be a good one since he can also play guard. Unfortunately, most mocks have him going to Miami at pick #19. The Virginia tackle, Moses, might also fit the job description.

A little something, I picked up on Twitter from John Kryk, NFL 'beat' reporter Toronto Sun.

On Thursday, Steve Keim is not checking out Johnny Football, but rather, spending his day in Montreal checking out a McGill University offensive lineman - Laurent Duvernay Tardif (6'5" - 315).

LDT is the top Canadian University lineman. Twenty Scouts and one GM (Steve Keim) are showing up at his local Pro Day.

He is further scheduled for a private workout in AZ in early April, and stops in Seattle, Buffalo, Cleveland.

Tentatively, he has a 4th round grade.

WOW. Look at the first play on the tape. That's some athleticism for a lineman.
