Per www.ProFootballTalk.com (Take it for what you will):

CARDS EXTEND BOLDIN

The Arizona Cardinals have reached an agreement with receiver Anquan Boldin on a four-year contract extension.

Per a league source, the new deal is a four-year extension of a contract that was set to expire after the 2006 season. Boldin's new agreement replaces minimum salaries of $380,000 and $450,000 over the next two seasons with the following terms:

$5 million signing bonus;

2005 salary of $1.5 million;

$5 million option bonus due in early 2006;

$1.75 million salary in 2006;

and salaries of $2 million in 2007, $2.5 million in 2008, $2.75 million in 2009, and $3 million in 2010.

The "new" money, then, is $22.67 million over the six-year term of the deal, with a total of $13.25 million paid over the next two years and a total of $15.25 million paid over the first three seasons.

Not bad for a guy who has played only two years, and who missed six games in 2004 with a knee injury.

Boldin caught 101 passes for 1,377 yards and 8 touchdowns in his rookie season of 2003, and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has been trying to get a replacement deal for the second-round draft pick for much of the past season. Boldin abandoned plans to hold out in an effort to force a new deal earlier in the offseason, after coach Denny Green made it clear that the organization was prepared to move on without him.

Instead, the Cards and Boldin will be together for the long haul.

Hmm, I don't know why it took so long...

That's very similar to what the team offered months ago. One extra year and slightly higher base salaries, but otherwise the same.

But who cares. It's done! :thumbup:

This sounds great! I figured it would take 10mil guaranteed to get Boldin signed. The Cards have given themselves some protection by pushing half the bonus to after this season. If Boldin stays healthy and has a great year, he will be one happy Cardinal.

Most have said all along that a deal would be made just prior to camp and after the rookies contracts. It made the most sence. Good for Q, good for us and now lets win a super bowl.

Cardinals | Boldin Lands Extension
Sun, 31 Jul 2005 10:40:35 -0700

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin has reached agreement on a four-year contract extension with the team. Under the original contract, Boldin had two more seasons remaining, at base salaries of $380,000 and $450,000, the NFL minimums. The extension adds four seasons, through 2010, thus creating a six-year contract with a total value of $23.5 million. Significant is that Boldin will earn a total of $13.25 million in bonuses and salaries for 2005-2006. In the first three seasons of the new deal, Boldin will earn $15.25 million. Boldin will receive a $5 million signing bonus and then an additional "second-tier" option bonus of $5 million next spring. The base salaries are $1.5 million (2005), $1.75 million (2006), $2 million (2007), $2.5 million (2008), $2.75 million (2009) and $3 million (2010).

Doesn't it seem with this signing and Owens, Walker and other Rosenhaus
clients reporting to camp that the owners have the hammer. Amen!

Cap numbers:

Boldin should count as 2.25 million this year. He was at 690K, this deal adds just over 1.5mil to the cap.

It looks like we still have over 3.5mil in cap space. We are in great shape to address any needs at the end of camp.

WR Boldin rewarded after outplaying initial contract

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=2120965

By Len Pasquarelli

Working to secure the long-term future of one of the team's emerging young stars, the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday reached agreement with third-year wide receiver Anquan Boldin on a four-year contract extension, ESPN.com has confirmed.

The deal represented the culmination of months of negotiations between Cardinals vice president of football operations Rod Graves and agent Drew Rosenhaus. Team officials had conceded months ago that Boldin, the league's rookie of the year in 2003, outplayed the original contract he signed as a second-round draft choice.

Had the former Florida State star simply played under his existing contract for those two seasons, he would have pocketed just $830,000. In the first three seasons of the new deal, Boldin will earn $15.25 million. So in terms of so-called "new money," the contract is worth $22.67 million, or an average of $5.67 million for the extension years.

Dealing only with the four seasons that represented the extension, Boldin's average is one of the highest in the league.

Boldin, 24, had skipped part of the Cardinals' offseason program while he sought to have the contract upgraded. He eventually reported for team workouts, in part as a good faith gesture, and because negotiations seemed to be moving in the right direction.

Under the deal completed on Sunday, Boldin will receive a $5 million signing bonus and then an additional "second-tier" option bonus of $5 million next spring. The base salaries are $1.5 million (2005), $1.75 million (2006), $2 million (2007), $2.5 million (2008), $2.75 million (2009) and $3 million (2010).

Starting in every game as a rookie, Boldin posted 101 catches for 1,377 yards and eight touchdowns. He established a new NFL record for most receptions by a rookie and his yards were the second most ever for a first-year player. Boldin suffered a knee injury in training camp last summer that sidelined him for the first six regular-season games. He started the final 10 games and had 56 receptions for 623 yards and one touchdown.

The Cardinals chose Boldin in the second round of the '03 draft, with the 22nd pick in that round, after his stock dropped because of pedestrian 40-yard times in workouts. But it did not take the physically imposing Boldin long to establish that he was a big-time player, and he now leads a trio of top-shelf wide receivers in Arizona that could certainly help the team contend for a playoff spot in 2005.

For the ubiquitous Rosenhaus, the extension marked a second straight day on which he finished a contract for a player who still had two seasons remaining. On Saturday, he consummated a three-year extension for New Orleans cornerback Mike McKenzie, on a deal whose value totaled $22 million.

It is believed that Boldin's extension is the first negotiated for a player who had two years left on his original rookie contract since Rosenhaus fashioned a landmark deal for Clinton Portis. The Redskins signed the tailback to a blockbuster contract after acquiring him in a trade with the Denver Broncos, and despite the fact his contract had two years to run.

Cardinals Agree to Contract Extension with WR Anquan Boldin

Tempe, AZ – The Arizona Cardinals today announced that the team has agreed to terms on an extension with wide receiver Anquan Boldin that will keep him under contract through the 2010 season. In accordance with club policy, terms were not disclosed.

A Pro Bowl selection during his rookie season in 2003, Boldin started all 16 games that year collecting a team record 101 receptions for 1,377 yards and eight touchdowns. The performance earned Boldin NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and established the league’s all-time rookie record for catches while ranking #2 in yardage.

Originally a second round pick (54th overall) in the 2003 NFL Draft out of Florida State, Boldin has 157 total receptions in his first 26 games, the most by any player in NFL history in that span.

The 24-year old Pahokee, FL native played in 10 games (nine starts) last season with 56 receptions for 623 yards and one touchdown. He missed the first six games of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a slightly torn meniscus in his right knee. He returned from that surgery to lead the Cardinals in receiving in eight of the final 10 games of the season in which he appeared.

Even if it takes a few days more before Rolle signs, the front office has earned the benefit of the doubt.
