Boldin inquires made, Cards say no

Representatives from a few NFL teams have called the Cardinals about the possibility of trading for receiver Anquan Boldin, but the conversations have been short.

"We're not interested in trading Anquan," General Manager Rod Graves said. "That's the short of it."

Rumors about a possible Boldin trade started soon after the team re-signed receiver Larry Fitzgerald to a four-year, $40 deal last month. There has been speculation that the team couldn't afford to keep both elite receivers and that it might be willing to deal Boldin.

Graves didn't name the teams that have called, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said he would like to trade for a starting receiver. The Eagles tried to swing a deal for Fitzgerald this off-season, and the Redskins have been rumored to be in the market for a receiver, also.

"Obviously because of those rumors, a few teams have called to inquire," Graves said, "and my response has been consistent with everyone: We're not interested in trading him."

Boldin is under contract through 2010, and the team hopes to extend that deal in the coming year. If negotiations go nowhere and it becomes obvious the club can't re-sign Boldin, the team's plans might change, Graves said.

"But we haven't arrived at that point," said Graves.

Is that point a long way away? Graves was asked.

"I would think so," he replied.

And I think it would be awesome if in the 5th round the Cards took mini Q, Adarius Bowman (another AB) from Oklahoma St. This guy is one tough player...and once his knee gets fully healed, he could turn some major heads.

And Bob Sanders. I think the question is whether you can trust the Cards' front office to make the savvy front-office decisions that Bill Polian makes.

The Cards seem like they want to keep everyone. The Colts decide whom they're going to cast aside--and it's usually the latest linebacker to reach free agency. But also their cornerbacks. And their running backs.

I think that you have to wait and see if you have a system in place that can be successful (I'm still not sold on Pendergast) and that your scouting department can locate talents that will thrive in your organization (thanks again for Daryl Blackstock and Buster Davis, guys). The Tampa 2 only needs outstanding defensive line play to be effective (really, every system needs this).

Tampa 2 corners are interchangeable because the defense typically has solid safety play

in the Cards case, OLBs would replace pass rushing DEs....

seriously though the Cards have to really pick 1 alignment and stick with it

only Belichick can effectively use a hybrid because he's a freaking defensive genious

Capers was god awful running a hybrid in Miami last year, and the Cards need an identity, not the constant switching of Pendergast...(the user of many, and the master of none)

Because this team claims to be on their way to playing smashmouth football, not running a spread offense. I dont buy into the smashmouth thing anymore, but I think the people you are talking about still do.

I could very well be wrong, but I remember the Cardinals offering to redo Boldin's contract in the middle of this year, and Boldin said he would wait till Fitz's deal is done, and then talk.

Fitz's deal got done a little more than a month ago, and Boldin is already looking for the door.

I don't get it. That is not really giving this organization a chance to do anything about it.

Furthermore, Fitzgerald might be the second best WR on the team (arguably) but at least he wants to be a Cardinal.

But regardless this sucks, and how the Cardinals let it come to this is crazy.

How could the face of your franchise end up wanting to get out ?

And I don't think your post was trash. But at that point I think we had been yelling at each other for about 25 hours so we couldn't tell anything from anything.

I editted that post cause when I re-read it didn't sound the way I wanted it to. It still doesn't sound right but based on your post you get my idea. I didn't think you were happy, trust me.

You were right....which sucks without a doubt, but it is the truth of the matter.

I am still amazed at this tho.

You resign talent and the rest of the team gets pissed and wants money. You don't resign talent, and you get a bad rap for not paying your players.

I dunno. I obviously don't see where the problem is, and don't get me wrong there is a serious problem with this organization. Unless you go back to when Fitzgerald was signed as a rookie and don't give him that crazy contract. But who on earth thought Fitzgerald would be good enough to hit all those incentives.

Maybe this has to do with Leinart and Boldin not having faith in him?

I read that thread and that seems like somewhat of an exaggeration.

What I read is some speculation and some agent posturing. Q is under contract for a while and I just can't see him pulling a Chad/TO, he already refused to do that once.

So far he has been a class act, even taking out newspapers ads to appologise when he blew up at the ened of a game. I just don't see him suddenly being a cancer, it doesn't seem in character.

No, it isn't. I enjoy it very much. We still have time to get a deal done, and if we can't, then fine, trade him and get other pieces. We'd get a lot in a trade for Boldin if it comes to that. Personally, I'm not thrilled with his requesting a trade when things look promising.

As for who I blame for this: Dennis Green. Yet another example of why drafting BPA does not work.

I'm willing to bet it was more like,i'd like to be traded if a new contract can't be worked out. Schefter wants to make it sound like Boldin kicked Whiz's door down and tore into him demanding a trade. I'm pretty sure it was matter of factly and just to let the Cards knows he'd like be taken care of like they did Fitz.

No, it isn't. I enjoy it very much.

Personally, I have tried my hardest to keep things on the up and up this season but this team always finds a way to rain on a parade. The last time I remember having any joy about what is going on was McClown throwing a pass to Nate Poole.......that is quite sad, IMHO. If you can take the bad news, the bad player management, the horrible performances in big games, the embarrassing miraculous losses in national games, the fact the team hasn't sniffed the playoffs in years, the fact this organization gets no respect, the fact media doesn't even know our name half the time, the horrible draft record, the horrible free agent record, the insane amount of key injuries at the worse possible time, and the fact the most entertaining player that his played for this team in a long time wants to walk out the door then your a better fan than I.

But I know I am not the only one on this board, or who roots for this team. That doesn't say "Well, the team sucks, and finds every way on earth to lose a game, but at least I get to watch Anquan Boldin play."

Even during some of the worse seasons I have ever sat through, it was still worth it to watch this guy play.

And it is not even Boldin at this point. The Cardinals have a list of core players looking for contracts, and if the current state of the league is proving anything they are not going to be patient about it.

The players know where the big money is, and it is on the east coast.

All I am saying is this sucks, and there ain't no two ways about it. The face of franchise wants out of Dodge? That can't be good.

All that being said, NightHawk11and81, you are right. You know you will find me in some back alley with a small black and white TV with a crack in the screen watching the Cardinals regardless.......stupid Cardinals.
