I heard rumors of this trade happening. Is this an even trade?

Gonzalez is slated to make $4 million next season
Boldin is slated to make $3.75 million next season

Should one team offer a draft pick to the other team? Maybe swap 2nds or 3rds?

I think a lineup of Fitz, Breaston, Doucet and Gonzalez at TE would improve our passing game.

No..

To me, a top 5-7 WR easily outvalues a top TE, especially one that's on the downside of his career and it's not even close.

He had 96 receptions for 1,072 yards and 10TD with Tyler Thigpen throwing him the ball.

It's funny how people get all NBA and start talking salary when discussing NFL trades. You guys do know that the salary doesn't matter right?

OK I'll bite.

How so? You have fit it under a cap in the NFL. In the MLB and NBA there is no cap, correct?

There is a soft cap in the MLB, with a dollar for dollar luxury tax. Although I'm not sure how high the cap is. I do know that there is a cap in the NBA but I'm not real sure how that one works.

We're trying to re-sign a ton of players...........trying to show how much more we'd be paying with Gonzalez.

OK .25. Is Gonzalez as unhappy about his pay as Boldin is? What you give up with receiving you get back with blocking and then some. I think I'd rather have Gonzalez. ;)

Gonzales is comparable to Q in terms of impact, he's a TD machine moreso than Q is and he's not on the downside of his career yet, he's older yes, still plays at a ridiculous level though.

NBA has a soft cap but thats only one factor. NFL has non-guaranteed contracts and the NBA has guaranteed deals. There are many differences in the salary structure and how it affects trades and the ability to trade. That is why you see NFL teams trade players for draft picks all of the time, and that is why the NFL doesn't have all of the rediculous exceptions. You just don't need to apply all of the NBA calculations to the NFL. Pick a player and make a deal, cut a few guys if need be.

Ok, but I really hate the idea of trading a quality PROVEN player for a draft pick that could be a bust. I'd rather have a player I know will be good.

I'd do it only if we knew we'd have Gonzalez under contract for the next 3 yrs or so(not sure his contract status) but I'd also ask for a swap of picks in the second round...that way we could move up from the bottom of round 2 to the top.

Me too, but honestly I'd do it without draft picks being involved.

1/12/2006: Signed a five-year, $35 million contract. The deal includes $17.75 million guaranteed. 2009: $4 million, 2010: $4.5 million, 2011: $5.75 million, 2012: Free Agent

Funny if Boldin ends up with Haley. If we are going to lose Q would not mind seeing us get really good at TE, I know Whiz is for it. That is an offense without Q that is really scarey.

Unless that guaranteed money is mostly in future roster bonuses, sounds like KC would be hit pretty hard on the cap with a trade.

That sounds about right, in my mind. We'd have a more traditional offense if we did that though and that effect KW's decision.

I have no idea if Graves and Pioli connect in any way but it certainly makes it interesting now that Haley is in KC. Honestly, I'm more inclined to believe Leinart's name would be the one mentioned if there is any trade between the two teams. Haley will want to put in his offense and a QB familiar with it goes a long way toward making it a smooth, more immediate transition.

But, I really don't think the Chiefs are in "win now" mode so I don't see them being interested in spending anything to bring in Leinart. If they don't offers something good I don't see the Cardinals being too interested in letting him go.

I really don't see Haley bringing in Boldin. I mean, other than some kind of revenge for the time TO blasted him on the sidelines and then Boldin doing the same last year, I don't think Haley is going to want a-hole WR's on his team regardless of their talent. Not to mention, Dwayne Bowe is a stud already and Boldin would be sharing the spotlight once again.
