i guess you're right about the modern reality of qualifying for super-max and getting it, but that stinks. I don't know who votes on All-NBA but you could really screw with a team's future by voting a player in
-- we really shot ourselves in the foot with that whole campaign that Booker-is-underrated and deserves extra-credit for being on the team with the best record

ultimately, it's the fans who get screwed. The owners and players work out their profit-sharing but no one's at the negotiating table for the fans. The result is outrageous ticket prices and cable fees. Low-income people can't even watch their own local teams any more.

To anyone who complained that Booker doesn't deserve to be paid like a top 3 player, he won't be. Year 1 of his extension kicks in for the 2024-25 season and he's set to be tied for #5 right now with KAT. I imagine we'll see more guys leapfrog him over the next 2 seasons also as deals expire and new extensions are signed.

Ahead of him are Curry, KD, Jokic, and Bradley Beal.

I believe Lillard will leap ahead of him as his new extension hasn't been updated but he signed a 2 year $122 million dollar extension. Source on Dame's extension.

Here is a list of top contracts...

look, by any rational analysis, Booker is a top 12 player who had a good season that justified the max salary he was already getting, not an 80% raise in 2 years. And that's disregarding his 2 hamstring injuries and playoff bust.

fans need to wake up and demand more affordable access instead of being so quick to justify the mega-rich getting richer. If NBA profits are going up, stop squeezing fans upwards of $100 per month for cable, a $100 minimum for a ticket, and close to $10 for a beer.

how about in that next NBA broadcast contract, they cut everything in half -- player salaries, owner profits, ticket and cable rates and give lower wage staff an 80% raise instead?

and when Sarver makes ALL-NBA Owner instead of being a disgrace to the city he'll qualify for a profit increase. Better yet, how about Phx owning the Phx Suns, who we subsidize with our taxes anyway? Then Saver won't be asking staff, "Do I own you?" We'll own him.

Watching basketball is not an inalienable right. If it's too expensive, I can walk away. Market forces determine pay.

I pay 35 dollars a game for front row seating in the upper bowl. Season tickets are surprisingly affordable.

Virtually all of player wage increase is being paid on the media end, advertisers and the rights to broadcast the games.

Uh...that's how it works. You are not just paying for how a player plays now. You are paying for the potential as well. Booker arguably has not hit his prime. He brings clout and obviously is drawing other players to play here with him. It's not just about the "now" when it comes to pay. I have zero problems with it. Also, there are a TON of home games with affordable tickets and ticket packages throughout the season.

If I were going to get behind a fan movement, it would be for one dedicated to putting an end all sports blackouts. Every one of the major sports make a lot of money off of us TV fans and yet we act like we're powerless. And we're getting screwed even worse today than we were just a decade ago. Somebody out there needs to get off their lazy butt and make the sports billionaires take notice on this issue so that I can sit here on my lazy butt and watch the games I want to watch.

in "Virtually all of player wage increase is being paid on the media end," virtual is the key word, as in "virtual reality."

actual reality, is that WE pay every salary. We pay the media. that's why the average ticket price is $100 and playoff tickets go for thousands. That's why there are blackouts. We pay every celebrity endorsement by paying more for the products they endorse.

want to see pro basketball on national network TV today? Your only option is the WNBA or Big3 for retired players because they can't squeeze you for every dollar the "market can bear." Yes, there are enough people that can bear the outrageous prices of the NBA market, and, for example, the housing market, but millions of below-average income makers, and many average earners can't.

it doesn't have to be this way. My parent's owned a house, raised 4 kids in it, sent them college, and cared for my grandmother in it at the same time -- all on my father's one, lower-middle-class salary!

and guess what? i watched every damn Knicks game (and most Bulls games with the GOAT and highest paid player of that time, named Michael Jordan) on free TV

so don't tell me "that's the way it is/works" as if the guy who can throw a ball through a hoop better really should be collectively paid by us literally 1,000 times more per hour than someone who does the work you do. That's the way it is, only because too many people just say "that's the way it is"

i'm glad Kyler Murrey just got extended too, but i'm afraid what we just experiencing from him and Ayton will become a trend -- pushing the salary limit hard, and in controversial fashion. I'd like to think that if the Suns had reservations about super-maxing Booker it wouldn't have been another big controversy.

like i said, the fans are the one's who pay. Always in dollars. But now, perhaps, much more often in regards to team disruptions as well

and it's all very much a piece of the inflation equation. At an even faster rate as other industries.

short term, short sighted thinking by us all. We want Kyler, Ayton, and Booker signed. The owners want us to have them now, and they've already made the plans to preserve, or increase their profits. Then we'll complain about the price of tickets, gas, parking, and beer and forget the connection between what transpired this past month

This has been a trend for years now. The networks know that live sports delivers the highest numbers for them so they've been pouring more and more money into TV deals to hang onto their viewers. What these players get is almost cast in stone given that their salary ranges are based on a percentage of the league's revenue.

I feel teams get you with the concession stands and team shops. Merchandise and food/beverages are costly in arenas / stadiums are they not?

It's mostly about television money these days. We are seeing it in the realignment of college conferences.

Max contracts are not about dominance or performance anymore. It's all about TIME IN, if you don't like that tell CP3, HE DID THIS!

That's the CBA, and these poor hardworking kids will have to SETTLE for GENERATIONAL money FROM YEAR ONE. When your great great great grandchildren don't have to give a @#$% about where their next meal is coming from YOU DID IT! And I WILL NOT feel sorry for you.

They are not cheap, that’s certain, but that’s always been the case, like going to a movie theater. To be honest the prices are pretty much on par with the other places downtown.

My biggest complaint about the suns arena food is that it’s mostly bad. The vendors don’t seem to have real kitchens so everything is Luke warm and over cooked. I got a burger one game and it reminded me of something out of an elementary school cafeteria.

If you go to a game my tip would be to either eat before, there are tons of good restaurants right next to the arena or visit the sportsbook for food and drinks, it’s cheaper in there and way better.

everyone keeps talking about the "tv deal" as if not directly connected to our cable bill going up.
again!
what the "market will bear" is exactly what WE will bear
yes...

but we don't walk away, do we?
the only new paradigm enabling the dramatic rise in salaries and prices is that the suits realized they can exploit the fact that we are fanatics about our sports

credit to Hulu, Sling and the rest for fighting the fight and not going along with the Sinclair/Bally's Sports price hike. but that leaves fans with few options

at a minimum, could we just stop rationalizing their greed and making excuses for the industry? i may be a sucker too. but i'm not going to just grin and "bear it" without trying to get them to "hear it"

Your beef should be with ownership, not the players. The players deserve their cut of the revenue, the owners are the ones who have sent salaries through the roof.

i'm more concerned about us not recognizing the role we play in our own exploitation, than whether the owners, players, or media is more to blame. Sports entertains us because it is a virtual "survival of the fittest." But the human species doesn't have to live that way. Indeed, that's exactly how it fails. And the failure is accelerating.

my favorite quote is
"...maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!"
