Didn't the Suns make this mistake last summer with the other Wallace? Rasheed will change his mind about retiring and the Suns will be on the hook for his entire contract.

I really don't get this one. With Amare gone they would be just under LT land so there is no real reason to shed anymore payroll. I would make sense if they were trying to clear more space to add someone but that isn't going to happen now.

This is getting funny. Sarver continues to find ways to devalue the team which gets nothing in return. Everyone should default on their season tickets next year because if they strip the team every way possible that has to be fraud. Sarver is a lame duck, walks, talks and acts like one. Case closed. Never when JC was in charge, did I feel the team would be worse because of decisions he would make in the off season. Sarver = nightmare. Even if this "trade" dump doesn't go through, the possibility that it is even being considered tells you how low expectations are. Kerr should write a book telling his side of what really was being asked during each crappy trade.

But doesn't it not become "official" official until he submits papers to the NBA? or am I wrong.

Can't they just trade him to Detroit for Ben Wallace?

Dumping Barbosa would have made more sense if you didnt tie up 2011 capspace in Frye and Warrick.

They wouldn't even be dumping him just taking back dead money. They'd just be trading him for an expiring when if they waited a year his own contract will be expiring and may hold more value.

Celtics would be stupid if they take the trade without getting a first round draft pick too.

Why? Even with those guys under contract they would only have about $29 million tied up if they unloaded Barbosa. I'm not enthusiastic about paying those guys an average of $10.5 million for the next four seasons either, but I don't see how that changes the situation with Barbosa.

They wouldn't even be dumping him just taking back dead money. They'd just be trading him for an expiring when if they waited a year his own contract will be expiring and may hold more value.

Barbosa's deal does not expire after this season. He has a $7.5 million player option for 2011-12.

Celtics would be stupid if they take the trade without getting a first round draft pick too.

that's actually what I was thinking as well.

Barbosa has negative trade value right now coming off a poor season with two years/$15 million remaining on his contract.

Doesn't matter if the cap stays the same we would have had enough caproom for 2 max players if we dump Barbosa and didnt pay Frye and Warrick plus a high lottery pick.

If you're saying that because we've been cavalier of late in protecting our draft picks, I'd probably agree just out of frustration. If you're saying it from a value standpoint than I'd strongly disagree. Barbosa had a terrible year but there's plenty of reason to believe it was an aberration.

I don't mind if the team moves him but I'd rather wait half a season to give him a chance to return to form and re-establish his trade value. At his best, he outplays his contract and trading him now when he's at his worst is a horrible business decision. There's a reason investors don't look for that buy high-sell low opportunity.

If the Suns do this deal and effectively dump Barbosa, Scottie Reynolds would not only make this team but also receive significant playing time.

In what universe would you see the Suns recruiting two max players in the same summer? You've said over and over that the front office is incompetent and the team has no future. Who, pray tell, would want to come?

Exactly. A year from now he'll have an expiring contract.

How do the Suns not pay Frye and Warrick? Also which 2 max FA are there next season. Melo is the only one I know of and he'll likely sign and extension under the current CBA before testing free agency.

I absolutely love Barbosa. Love his attitude, love for the team, city etc... The kid slept in the locker room his first night because he was so grateful to be here (at least thats what I have heard). But he was really frustrating to watch last season, specifically in the playoffs. He would isolate himself and go to the hole completely out of control, often resulting in a turnover. If we can get anything of value for him I would prefer to get Dragic more minutes in his place.

That said, we would be very thin at the 2, especially with J-Rich contract expiring next year.

If room is created, I would like to bring in someone like:
Shannon Brown
Anthony Morrow (though he is restricted)
Rasual Butler
Ronnie Brewer
Roger Mason
Wesley Matthews (Restricted)
Randy Foye

There is absolutely no way to justify such as move this summer. The Suns are not looking to sign anyone now, and we are already around $15M under LT. There is no need to clear cap space now. If the Suns need the cap space next summer, you can consider dealing Barbosa then when he'll have an expiring contract. His trade value is bound to increase, because quite frankly it couldn't get any lower than it is now. We have only four true guards on this team right now and Barbosa will still play a significant role. Any move that dumps Barbsosa this summer would be a cost-cutting move, and that's going to be hard to spin for the team when they aren't anywhere near LT this time.

Yeah, they can no longer pull the "we had to shed salary to keep the core together" bit.
