Pats fans are smarter, classier, healthier than those in NY

Friday, Jan 25, 2008 8:39 am EST

Boston Herald columnist Jessica Heslam claims the stats done lie — New England Patriots fans are smarter, classier and healthier and own pricier homes than the riff-raff who root for the New York Giants — and now we've got the research to back it up.

Some 62 percent of Pats fans living in the Boston area earned a bachelor's or postgraduate degree or have some higher-education experience, compared to 59 percent of Giants fans, according to the latest marketing data provided by the Nielsen Co., the TV ratings firm.

Likewise, 72 percent of Pats fans live in homes worth north of $200,000, compared to 63 percent of Giants yahoos. Pats fans drink Amstel Light, not Bud Light. Giants fans slug back lots of whiskey. Bostonians are likely to read connoisseur magazines like Wine Spectator. Gotham fans like to pig out on junk food like pretzels, chips and nuts. When Giants fans aren’t booing Giants coach Tom Coughlin or punk quarterback Eli Manning in that New Jersey stadium they call home, they’re out practicing their tennis backhands in the backyard.

100% of the people living in my house want the Giants to win. Oh, and 100% of the people living in my house live in homes worth more than $200,000. I guess fans in my home are smarter and classier than fans in Boston!

Pats fans are smarter, classier...
I am calling BS on this...when I came to AZ for the Season Opener for the Pat Tillman tribute, my experience showed me that Pats fans were, drunken, rude, obnoxious, overly prideful jerks... One Pats fan told a uniformed Naval Officer in attendance that Pat Tillman was a *F-Word* *Female anatomy* because he played for the Cards...If I was not with my 7 year old brother at the time, I would've punched that idiot.

This number is something like 26% for Maricopa County. :thud:

For the record, I remember quite well the "rivalry" between the Lakers and Celtics... Though as Garnett aptly put it, it's more of a history than a rivalry...

Look, we all come at this from different points of view - that's what is so great about sports... So I really don't expect anyone here to really understand the Boston-NY thing... This is more than a rivalry. It actually pits the cities against one another. Sports is just one of the MANY issues between these two cities. I grew up in the NY area and went to college 30 mins outside Boston. I still marvel at the conversations I witnessed between Boston and NY residents... Which city is cleaner, has better food, prettier women, better education, and even which city had bigger/stonger people (no lie). A battle like this is sio much more geographic in nature, and sports just fueled the hate!
In pure sports terms, there never has been and never will be a rivalry like the Yankees - Red Sox rivalry. 3 hours separates the cities... They have played in the same division for 100 years! The Yankees got The Babe from Boston! Same for Boggs & Clemens - who each won a World Series with the Yankees, having never done so with the Sox. The Sox, down 3 -0, came back and won 4 straight to finally break the jynx against the Yankees...
Lakers - Celtics? Ummm, yea - at one time they were the two most dominant teams in the NBA. But rivalry? I mean, does anyone in LA care what is happening in Boston, and vice versa??
I would buy a LA - San Diego, LA -San Francisco, heck, even a LA-Phoenix rivlary more than I would buy into a LA-Boston rivalry...

I absolutely agree with this. I never saw worse trash than these fans at that game. They rivaled the trailer scum Cowboy fans and the gangster Raider fans and anyone else I've ever seen at SDS or UofP.

I have a very good friend, lifelong Patriots fan, grew up in Rhode Island. Bonafide fan who lived and died with that team when they were just as hard luck as the Cardinals. Good guy, he lives here now, has Cards season tix and pulls for the Big Red more than most people I know. He's not one of us, but nevertheless he's a better Cards fan than most of the milk-toast neighbors that live on your street in the Valley who couldn't name five defensive starters on the Cardinals if you were going to give them a new car. My point about my friend is, he is embarrassed about the behavior and caliber of New England fans. During that game in 04, he told me apologetically, watch out for these people, they are vermin. And he was right, they were largely vicious, drunken, disrespectful scum. Then again, comparing them to Giants fans is kind of a sterile exercise. Those people are an embarrassment too.

Stupid New England. They start winning championships and this is what happens. It's stupid really. The fact that the Boston Herald would print crap like that just proves that New Englanders aren't as "classy" as they thin they are.

Yeah, and they prolly got a lot more mouth when opposing fans aren't around. They don't strike me as the toughest bunch. Especially when I heard about so many Pats fans getting chumped by eagkes fans when they played in Jacksonville. I was hearing stories every other day leading up to the game.
