Has anyone had problems with their heating elements? Mine just went out. Luckily I still had 20 days to go until my warranty was up, so they're sending me a free replacement.

It was a major bummer though, had to finish my meat in the oven.

Is that code for something?

True to our words, ours arrived today:

http://www.amazon.com/Masterbuilt-3...GEGY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1338843974&sr=8-2

Got it through Home Depot. So excited to get home & bust it out!

Congrats!

I used to fire up my Gas Grill 3-4 times a week. I've used it maybe 10 times in the last 6 months. I just love how my BBQ turns out on the smoker that it's so hard to go back. That and we are eating less meat than we used to. Still if I have a choice I fire up the smoker.

This look phenomenal

Hell yes, those do look phenomenal, except they look like beef ribs. :) J/K

I have visited this thread a few times, I cannot wait to buy a smoker this fall when I move into my new house.

I have a few questions if anyone can offer suggestions.

I am torn between propane or electric. I like the idea of propane because I could camp and tailgate with it (maybe not tailgate due to the time involved with the cooking process). But I also like the idea of electric because it will be on my back patio 90% of the time. Does anyone have any advice on this?

Electric. Smoke all your meats before hand and pack with you for camping and tailgating :)

Brian refuses to go electric, but then complains how he can't keep the temp right, he's glued to it the whole time it's cooking out in the heat, blah, blah, blah. Says electric is for wusses.

I say, fine...call me a wuss. We get to set it & forget it & however many hours later, BAM! our food is done & awesome.

We're smoking a beef brisket today, as a matter of fact, for Nick's birthday. :)

Love, love, love the electric smoker. I'm with Shane--smoke it ahead of time, pack it & bring with.

He's finally right about something. ;)

However he shouldn't worry about temp so much. As long as it stays in the 225-285 range all is good. Constantly worrying about temp is a perfection thing that all men go through. Although it's hard for most men to get over, maintaining the perfect temp isn't necessary with BBQ. Just fire up your charcoal and check every 30 minutes to make sure things are still good. Brian must learn to trust his inner BBQ instincts.

Nope. I will NEVER use an electric smoker, and it is for wusses. My smoker is just real tempermental. Have to make the adjustments very slightly.

Smokin' up 3 racks of ribs this weekend, Johnny Trigg style. Using Grand Champion Rub from the texasbbqrub company. Mopping the final hour with my homemade sauce.

It's gonna be good, and it's gonna be done man-style. Not all sissified like my sister!

Why don't you just use the microwave fer crying out loud?

I DO use my microwave...for things that are meant to be microwaved. Just like I use my ELECTRIC STOVE, and ELECTRIC OVEN. I don't see you railing against these innovations. I'm pretty sure that you use a stove, microwave, & oven, as well. Hate to tell ya, but those are for wusses, too. A real man would use a wood-burning stove...or better yet, nothing but fire for everything.

Oh, and have fun with that this weekend in 110 degree heat.

Some man you are!

And I will have fun with that, ESPECIALLY when I eat my REAL smoked ribs!

Ha!

(Besides, it's only like 108 in the shade, so I might get the chills).

This sounds an awful lot like a throwdown challenge....
Sure. You prepare 2 batches of your ribs. I'll cook one in my smoker, you cook one in your smoker. We'll see which one tastes better.
