And your team would be? And what bowl are they playing in?

Knock FSU if you will, but Penn State earned their spot, and will prove it in the Orange Bowl.

Clearly the BCS is also about making money. The Fiesta Bowl -- Notre Dame vs. Ohio State -- is a money making matchup. The game will be an instant sellout, even tough they overlooked other teams with better records.

I think this will actually be a good game.

I know Florida State won the ACC, but how can you play in the BCS with 4 losses? We need a playoff. It would be better to argue about who should have been the 16th spot in a playoff system, rather than a big 1-6 debate that is a difference of 1-14 million dollars.

Besides, there a huge East coast bias in the B(C)S anyways.

Money, money, money. Half of bowl selections is about who will bring the fans. Teams like Nebraska, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Ohio State have fans and have fans that will travel.

Seems to me like a playoff would make even more money. Maybe just have the big bowls be the final four, so they are still the important ones?

While I understand that Notre Dame Ohio st is a matchup too good to pass up... two years in a row? 2 teams both 10-1.. both only loss was to the defending champions and neither gets a BCS bowl? What a ripoff!!!! I don't care about tradition when you are talking about the difference of a team getting 14 million dollars!!!

How does a team like Oregon actually build any tradition if they keep getting shafted?

Oklahoma?? 4 loss Oklahoma??

Stout - calm down - not knocking Penn State - as a Big 10 Fan, I hope PSU kicks the snot outta FSU. Just commenting on the age of the coaches is all.

I know PSU earned there spot - if not for a bad call, they would be undefeated.

Sorry, Jon...some folks are still hard on Penn State out here, believe it or not. Jumping the gun too much on one little post. I'll buy you a grilled sticky at the Diner if you ever bump into me in State College.

The only defense of leaving Oregon out is that they don't have their starting QB so despite their record their perceived rank is lower.

I think I read that's 3 out of 4 years or 4 out of 5 that the Pac 10 has been left out of a BCS bid like this.

Under the terms of the BCS contract, Ohio State and Notre Dame HAD to be selected as at-large teams. Any time a team is in the top 4 and not conference champion (Ohio State) then they HAVE TO BE SELECTED. Any time Notre Lame has 9 wins, and is in the top 12, THEY HAVE TO BE SELECTED.

I think it's anytime a team NOT in a BCS conference finishes top 12 but it's teh same thing, the rule is essentially the ND rule.

My complaint is it's a dumb rule, the only rating that has ND ahead of Oregon is AP, even the BCS rankings have Oregon ahead of them. But the 5th rated BCS team(oregon) falls to play a team rated 23rd, OU. Of course Oregon better win that game, if they lose, they'll just reinforce the idea they deserved to be snubbed like Cal did last year.

What utterly sucks isn't the fact that Oregon got shafted out of the BCS. IMHO, this Oregon squad isn't better than the Cal team that got **** caked last year, however as is the case in both seasons, at least the better teams got in as the At Large. What sucks about Oregon (and what sucked about Cal last season) is the the Bowl they got stuck in.

How the hell can you go through the season with one loss in the Pac 10 yet still miss out on a New Year's Day Bowl? Some of these conference tie-in bowls are for the birds.

No, but I went to Penn State in '94 (the year we WERE the national champions, as rightfully acknowledged by Pepsi and a special ESPN issue.)

Politics and economics is the NCAA. Oregon is way up in the corner of the map and they don't have national appeal. Factor in a small fan base that will not travel. The Ducks and Beavers have to beat USC and win the Pac 10 to not get shafted.

Agreed, but if they pull another Cal and lose their bowl, the Pac-10 will never get the respect.

Dumb rule for a dumb BCS system. Notre Dame on the field does not deserve a BCS spot, but on the balance sheet of NCAA economics the Golden Domers are the draw. The Fiesta Bowl organizers are salivating over this one. Big bucks are coming to your town.

Yup. One team conferences don't cut it with the bowl folks and the Pac 10 just might do that this year.

P.S. Nittany Lions whoop on Bawby's SemiHoles.

To your first, agreed.

To your second, a big :D
