I don't see how Webb isn't the starter. Good thing Glavine plays in New York. The only thing he has over Webb is wins and that's not a great stat for pitchers.

Brandon Webb will be the Diamondbacks lone representative in this years All-Star Game. Fan balloting is awful, and tying home field advantage to it is even worse, but good for Webb anyways.

Estrada didn't make it? Paul Lo Duca, Mark Redman, and Brian Fuentes as allstars is an absolute joke.

Estrada is having a good year but I agree that Webb is the only legit All Star on our current roster.

Before tonight Webb hadn't won for over a month, that isn't exactly deserving of an All Star start

The thing I really don't get about adding Fuentes is that the Rockies already had a pick (Holliday). So taking a guy having a pedestrian year like Fuentes is pretty confusing. Not sure what Garner's logic was there.

Estrada got the shaft, but so did the Cubs' Michael Barrett. Both leagues are just full of catchers having great years. Look at the AL - Ramon Hernandez, AJ Pierzynski (hitting .330) and Jorge Posada all got shafted.

It's the nature of the all-star process. The managers make their choices, then everyone pisses and moans about them. I love all the flack Ozzie Guillen is getting for taking 6 Sox players (all quite deserving except Buehrle). I don't seem to recall the ESPN crowd complaining when Joe Torre loaded 8 or 9 yankees on the AL roster every season....

As a side note, why are all-star jerseys always so ugly?

Right now, I think he should be the starter. League leader in ERA and IP. Only four pitchers have more wins.

Webb may deserve to start, but the single most important stat in any sport is victories.

Actually, for All-Star starter, how many days of rest he's had prior to the break, is a large determining factor in who starts the game.

Of the most qualified, Webb appears to be in the best position for that now.

I think that’s ridiculous. The pitcher can’t help his offense score can he? I would think that ERA would work better for pitchers.

So Jason Marquis and his 11 victories belong in the All Star game even though his ERA is above 5.00 and he leads the NL in HRs allowed? Webb is Top 5 in the NL in the most important numbers in determining a pitcher's effectivess (innings pitched, ERA, WHIP, K/BB, etc) which is why he's the frontrunner for Cy Young even if Phil Garner is a moron and awards Penny the start.

Now I know why undeserving pitchers keep winning the Cy Young and deserving pitchers with no run support keep getting shafted for postseason awards and HOF entry.

Actually in the National League, the pitchers swing the stick - so Yes, they can help the offense score.

Webb did a nice job last night, facing some good hitters. Only got one inning due to the Clemente ceremony, however.
