According to a comment on PFT from someone who said they were in that section, the woman niners fan threw the beer on the woman cards fan and then all hell broke loose.. for what it's worth.

I sit in this section and this is pretty much how it started, though I didn't see the beer being thrown.

What made it worse was a Niners fan who came over from the other side of the section and up the steps to join in. It really escalated after that.

This BS makes me worry about taking my boys (12 and 9) to the game against the Redskins as well as my wife. I don't worry about defending myself (6'3, 280) but when ya have that stuff starting, my worry will be on my family. We will be in Section 116, row 32.

Sometimes I think what they do at soccer in Europe is good. Put away fans in their own section. They dare to go and sit with home fans.

In the UK if you were an away fan you wouldn't be allowed in to the home fans' section if they knew you were an away fan. Often the away fans are taken to the stadium in buses and go straight to the stands. When the game is over they get straight on the buses and are driven home. You aren't allowed to drink alcohol in the stadium where there is a view of the field.

It is really sad that people should ever feel threatened at a sports event and that this sort of thing is even necessary.

In many Italian stadiums, the opposing fans are in one section with an empty section separating them from home fans on each side. They also can't leave at the same time as the home fans.

Where can we go to nominate Opie to crank the red siren for a game? Or maybe the banner guy can do a sign for him?

The reason I was given although I can't verify, is that at last year's Superbowl someone was caught with an e-cig that had been converted into a bomb. So now the NFL has prohibited all e-cigs. The same as how the Boston Marathon bombings changed the policy on clear bags only.

Technically if you are found with an e-cig you are supposed to remove it from the stadium and the stadium has a no re-entry policy. That isn't the way most of the security is handling it so far but that's the direction I think it's heading.

Just thought I'd give you a heads up because I heard those things can be expensive.

If they are going to be that strict about it, they can kiss my money goodbye. I am not going to go to games if it means I have to bring real cigarettes because they wont let me bring my ecigarette in. My preference is to not smoke real cigarettes even though I dont always do the best job of it.

I guess we shall see what happens.

Cell phones can be rigged into bombs. I dont see a no cell phone rule. They dont even check pockets and etc so not sure how they would have found said ecigarette or figured out that it was a bomb.

Interesting article on the subject of fan violence

http://www.cbssports.com/general/wr...e-taking-on-life-of-its-own-can-it-be-stopped

The NFL is trying to stop us from hurting each other. It's trying hard, and it's trying to keep it mostly a secret, because going public with this sort of thing is no way to grow your business: Please come to our games; we'll try to make sure you don't get beat up!
And the NFL is trying. The NFL is failing, if only because failure is unavoidable. Put 70,000 people in a confined space, add alcohol and testosterone -- estrogen, too -- and multiply that by the surge of adrenaline that comes from being emotionally invested in the game, and violence is going to happen.

Cards fan defends security guard during brawl; Dockett tweets support

http://www.kpho.com/story/26600314/...ity-guard-during-brawl-at-game?autostart=true

"Had, honestly, I just pulled his arm off his throat and he would've let go, it would've been that," Cakebread explained.

Instead, the man kept a tight grip on the security guard's neck, and in a YouTube video, you can see Cakebread throw several right hooks.

"I feel guilty for having punched him," he admitted. "But, honestly, I'm not going to sit back and watch someone choke somebody else out."

---

Cakebread said he's honored by Dockett's shout out – but he was only trying to do the right thing.

"I don't consider myself a hero," he said. "I just consider myself helping somebody else out that was overpowered by a situation."

Cakebread said he's a season ticket holder, so he doesn't need the free tickets.

Instead, he'd like to see Dockett give them to disadvantaged kids and perhaps join him for Sunday dinner – as long as the Cards aren't playing a home game, that is.

This is amazing to me. Every time I have gone to a Cardinals game, there has been at least 1 fight around me. Fans take this way too serious. Players care less about losing a game than fans do. Just don't get it.

Players aren't inebriated during the game.

Must of felt great for Docket jersey guy to crack that low life punk thug in the head a couple times. He got what he derserved and I love how he was staggering around afterwards like he lost the only two marbles he had in his head.

I am alittle concerned that Docket guy has his name as public knowledge and that he now must be careful not to be singled out for retribution when at cards games or in the parking lots tailgating. Still, major props goes out to him.

Don't be. While the lower deck isn't immune to fights or obnoxious fans, I think the overall response is quicker. DPS patrols the sidelines watching the crowd and SAFE (along with DPS) is able to watch over the crowd from atop the isle.

Plus, the Redskins aren't a natural rival anymore, so I doubt there will be as much ruckus as say a SF, SEA, Dallas, etc..

My wife and I purposely made sure this was the one game we came to without our son. We already knew from many previous games, that the SF crowd is full of trouble makers. Unfortunately, the "cheap seats" are aptly named for a reason. Most of the low life thug crowd will buy the cheapest seats possible just to go to the game and talk crap with as many people as possible. We have ROH seats on the home side and have never had problems but most of the crowd is older Cards fans. I know it's hard for a family of 4 to purchase club or 50 yard line seats but I probably would not sit in the cheap seats with my family, especially for a game with SF, Oak, Philly, Dallas, etc...

Sorry Opie but his hand came off of the throat BEFORE you punched him. He probably deserved a good punching but your story doesn't quite fit what the video shows.

Just sayin'.

It matches up with exactly what he said. He got the hand off the throat but the arm was still around the security guy, so that's when he punched him. His story and the video align on that.

It's cool. He helped someone who could have been really injured and that's the main thing. I just have a hard time with violence like that and probably posted something out of my arse :)

You probably have it more correct than I did.

A lot of good points there, just wanted to add in my 2 cents.

I had season tickets for years, went with my Dad who is in his 60's. I never got in a fight, never close really. I'm not a fighter. I dont turn around and talk smack to opposing fans after every first down, that sort of thing.

But going to the games for 10 years including a lot of SDS games, I saw a LOT of fights. I can tell you that 90% of the time they were started by drunk guys in their 20's who come to the game purely to act like *******s and drunk guys in their40's who get pissed off at them and then it's a Animal Planet documentary waiting to happen...

You see the 20's at the game going up and down, up and down the stairs. You think; Why even come to the game? You haven't seen any of it you spend all your time going to get more beer and going to the bathroom? Then they spend what little time they are in their seats facing away from the field, arms raised and antagonizing other fans.

That's where 40 year old drunk guy comes into the picture. See 40 year old drunk guy has a lot of angst like you talked about, plus he got drunk in the parking lot because he's too smart to pay $9 for beer, but now his buzz is wearing off, this angers the primitive beast.... He's got the pressure of life on his shoulders and he paid hard earned money to come to the game and have a few beers, now he's got 20year old drunk guy screaming in his face all game, trying to antagonize him. He's been listening to 20's crap all game and he's not going to put up with it anymore. Who does this 20 think he is?

Then the 20 starts thinking; 'haha I'm getting under that 40's skin, this is fun! I'm gonna go even harder, cuz the beer is making me brave and fighting is fun!'

These two creatures can only exist in the same space for so long before there is a fight.

Did we meet at SDS before? I would be that late 30's - 40's guy. Excellent play by play from what I seen at SDS. ;)

I actually miss going to games at SDS. Ahhh, the sweltering seats, the warm beers and heatstroke, being able to snipe lower level seats because all the sane people had already left, doing the wave with 10 people, 7 of which were Dallas fans. Who's with me?

I love me some Cakebread and hope to buy him a beer someday.
