It was either last year or the year before where Arrington broke free on the sideline and had a good 10 yard lead on the nearest defender who had a very slight angle on him. The defenser caught him form behind. Someone who is supposed to have spped like Arrington should never be caught with a 10 yard head start and already in full stride.

Carolina, I forget the safety that caught him. Wasn't 10 yards IMHO but he clearly had a chance to score and didn't. I pointed out at the time we picked him he got caught from behind quite a bit at Cal, he had the burst to get to the open field and go, but not the speed to go all the way.

Forsett at Cal now is the same way, Lynch rarely got caught, and nobody comes close to catching Jahvid Best the Cal freshman RB now(who has a hip injury that has me nervous for next year).

JJ's fast compared to Edge and Shipp, not compared to most NFL "speed" RB's.

Well at least Shipp has an 80+ yard TD a couple years back against the rams in the dome. He went the whole way and nobody really even came close to catching him.(they were trying too) Freaking Arrington.

So maybe todays Shipp I'll agree. I dont know about before the ankle being turned 180 degrees.

That was 2002, 80 yard reception against the Rams. He had 2 catches for 79 yards that day he was so slow he lost yards on the other catch .

:D

I do remember that one, Had a 56 yard run against the Eagles that year too and a 40 against SF, caught on both of those. He's definitely not the same back since that unfortunate injury.

If it were as simple as taking a good kick returner and getting them the ball in space during an offensive series, Devon Hester would be the most dangerous WR in the game. It just doesn’t work that way most of the time. Are there exceptions? I’m sure there are (though I can’t think of any at the moment), but for the most part good return men do not make great offensive players.

Pretty much what I was going to say when I saw the thread. Maybe it'd work, probably it wouldn't. The coaching staff is in the best position to know since they get to see him practice.
