Gosling got off to a rocky start but settled down, got aided by a couple of double plays. He won't figure into the decision, though.

Worrell just came in and gave up a Home Run to JJ Hardy, 3-2 Mil.

Another day, another game blown by the bullpen and inept offense. It would usually piss me off except I've already seen the exact thing play out about eighty times already this year.

And when did Tim Worrell become a junkball pitcher?

at this point, unless the Father's keep losing, we dont have a chance to catch up. we need to win a few in a row to make a real dent. this going .500 and gaining 3 games isn't going to last. Why can't we squeak out just a simple 3 game win streak? i'm not asking for much!

on the bright side, it's the 2nd half of the season. Quite a few of our big names are notorious 2nd halfers. Glaus and Green to name a couple. And who is the guy swinging the bat for Royce Clayton? It's obviously a body double.

I really think if Glaus were healthy, he'd be making us reasonably happy. We were scrutinizing the other night at the game - even when he's on deck taking warm up swings, he favors the bad leg visibly - and he can't possibly run out close singles this year or steal or push a double like he always has - so I sure wouldn't expect him to heat up at all (besides, although he said he's a second-half guy, his stats don't really bear that out - not like Green's).

Can we just face that this is barely even a .500 team, that isn't suddenly going to change, it's a big improvement from last year and hopefully we will look a bit younger and better next season? Aim for 2007-2008 to get it all together - which was supposedly JC's new 5-year plan before he was canned? THAT is very do-able - and worth doing.
Winning the 2005 NLWest is hardly a feather in one's cap.

Webb on the hill tonight against Chris Capuano. Webb desperatly needs a good start here tonight, his ERA for July is over 7.00.

And I'm totally rooting for Capuano. Always one of my favorite babybacks, and he pitches with smarts, enormous drive, and guts. Plus if he beats the pants off us, maybe Joe would think twice this time before making ill-advised trades of good prospects.

Melvin better make changes to the line-up tomorrow. This offense is struggling bigtime. Do the Diamondbacks look to trade Green, put Tracy in right and call up Jackson? The Red Sox lost Trot Nixon tonight(out indefinitely) with a strained oblique, maybe they would want Green?

I'm guessing the D-Backs had to agree to a no-trade clause in order to convince Green to come here but I could be wrong.

Ooooo! Ooooo! Zona for GM! Only a well-heeled team would even consider Green's contract - and he would only consider a legit contender, I'm sure. However, I can't see Theo spending that kind of money for Green's type of play given the multi-year contract. He's not a BoSox kinda guy.

Outside of Capuano, Lyle Overbay would be only behind Tony Clark in OPS if he were a D-Back. Spivey gained them a quality starting pitcher in Tomo Ohka. De La Rosa is better than any of the LH jokers we've tried out in the bullpen. And last but certainly not least, the Brewers are younger and better than us with a significantly lower payroll with just as much of a bright future.

Let's all hear it for Joe Jr!

Lyle Overbay will not be a Brewer next year. He could be traded before the deadline. Fielder is the future at first.

I agree but a guy who's dirt cheap for the next three years, has an .891 OPS, and has improved evey year he has been in the bigs is going to get the Brewers some help in return.

Reported today that Joe's name is up again in serious discussion for VP of operations for MLB. While I devoutly hope this happens*, and it is the Peter Principle incarnate -- my gawd, what does that say about the men who run our game?!
* 'Be careful what you wish for...Better the Devil you know...' KOW, etc. etc.

Strange game today. D-backs up 2-0 in the seventh. First run early in game on a triple and a wild pitch. Second run scores on a error by Overbay trying to get it to the pitcher on a play at first.

What can you expect in a game Grace races as the bratwurst.

Get back to work, Mulli. Your files don't work themselves, do they?

D'Backs win 3-0. Another great outting for Vargas. Need to give props to Joe G. Jr. for bringing in Vargas. I wish the bullpen could pitch like that every game. The offense is still sputtering. A win is a win. 2.5 out of first. Let's go Cardinals!

Vargas has been a nice pickup. It's too bad he'll either be traded or back in the pen once the 34 Million Dollar man Russ Ortiz comes back.

With Estes still out I imagine Vargas will still be in the rotation.
