Klowned by Keim
First, I wanted to say that Keim really liked Brian Hoyer, placed a third-round tender on him and had to cut him for financial reasons more than because of his level of play.
If you call your own suspicions and prejudices "facts," your case looks a little better. If you strip those out, and only rely on the things that are actually in evidence, you see that Keim might best be described as an ordinary talent evaluator based on the evidence at hand, with room certainly to improve.
My argument isn't that Keim doesn't deserve a shot in the Big Boy Chair. I'm merely saying that his reputation on this board as being an inerrant evaluator of talent is pretty off-base.
OK, lets talk facts about the football decisions that we do know.
- Keim Wanted AP over Levi How do we know this? Because of a blind quote to The Sporting News? Who do you think placed the quote?
- When Whiz got his new contract, he had final say on all football related decisions We don't "Know" this, either. I believe it to be true when it comes to the Final 53, but I don't think it was "all football-related decisions. Please justify.
- One of the final straws for Bidwill was Whiz's evaluation on R. Wilson, not Keim's. I believe that M. Bidwill is/was obsessed with Russell Wilson, don't know where the cleave in who's opinion is.
- The talent obtained from the draft went downhill when Whiz had control. Also when Keim was promoted to VP Player Personnel, but who's splitting hairs?
- We have no clue were Keim had players ranked, but Whiz is no longer here and Keim is. What does this prove, exactly?
- Whiz hand picked all QB's. I believe this, but CBus has pointed out pretty persuasively that he was hand-picking them from the remainders pile of an adult bookstore; hard to find quality articles there.
- Hoyer threw three INT's yesterday with a great LT and TE playing for him.
- We DO NOT know if Houlser or Williams were picks from Keim or Whiz, but we do know that Whiz had final say. I don't believe this to be the case. What I do know is that the personnel men have increasing control over prospects the further we get into the draft, and Keim has praised Houseler and Williams to the high heavens after Whis was escorted from the building. As I've said multiple times, Keim doesn't deserve SOLE blame for these two terrible picks, but he deserves SOME blame for them.
- All except one 2013 draft pick is on the roster and the one was a 6th round risk that did not make it due to health, not skill. And only one of them are starting for a team that finished the season 1-11 last year. Meanwhile, where are Jasper Brinkley, Alexander, Jerroud Powers, and Rashard Johnson? Have they shown up on any Sunday, because they were our top free agent targets this year.
Did I miss anything? So, based on the facts, to pin so much on Keim is a biased exaggeration since we do not know enough and anyone claiming to know more is fooling themselves. The funny part is, you were so quick to make an exaggeration for the positive in the case of the Steelers, but I cannot remember that last time you made a positive comment about the Cardinals. That really says a lot to me.
