Great movie, took my kids to see it in the theatre and bought the DVD when it came out. A great mix of sad and happy.

I liked it...I loved the book. I thought the movie could have done a little more on establishing the relationship between Jess and Leslie than it did. It was fairly true to the book, but the themes of death, imagination and friendship the book (and movie) are based on come through. My 6 and a half year old liked the movie, though over her head in some parts...but we had a nice discussion about life, death, imagination, friendship and all that goes with it on the way home.

Thank God it wasn't like the trailers portray it and all fantasy stuff...most of the movie is based in reality, with touches of imagination thrown in. A touching scene when Jess gives Leslie a dog really reminded me of how their relationship felt in the book...not just friends, but not in "love" but somewhere in a special area in between that can only exist in that odd world before sexuality begins to rule all.

Not as good as I'd hoped, but I still liked it.

funny that you mention the trailers 'cuz i rented it based on some of y'all's comments about the book. i thought it was actually pretty terrific, but i'm a tremendous sentimentalist. that stuff gets me. i'll definitely read the book now . . .

Wow, that's really harsh. I loved this movie...moved me to tears. Granted, I'd never read the book, but it was a well-done flick.

if stout can admit it, i'll admit it too . . . i actually cried. i haven't done that about a movie in i can't remember how long. but as i said earlier, i'm a sentimentalist.

i call bs. you're just trying to be one of the cool kids.

oh yeah? Just to prove my tear shedding form, every time I watch Little Giants... when that little shrimpy kid returns a kickoff for a TD, just as his Dad (who's never been able to come for a game) shows up and the kid runs right through the endzone into his Dad's arms... niagra falls.

It's a kid's book...not a novel or anything. It is just a great kid's book. Really short. The book's impact might be lessened though, knowing now what you know plus you are an adult. I don't know...I'm interested to see your reaction on the book vs the movie, actually.

Dude, you should never watch "My Life" or "My Life As A House." Your dude credentials would be challenged by anyone within eye contact.
