Meet Wesley Johnson: The Newest Phoenix Suns' Addition

Now that the trade has been finalized which sent Robin Lopez and Hakim Warrick to the New Orleans Hornets, and Wesley Johnson plus a conditional first round back pick to the Suns by way of Minnesota ... it is time to take a look at the newest member of Planet Orange.
Wesley Johnson is a 25 year old 6-foot-7, 215 pound SG/SF formerly of Iowa St./Syracuse, and fourth pick of the draft in 2010. Coming out of college he was regarded as one of the top talents in the draft, and one of the most NBA-ready players available. But after two very underwhelming seasons in Minnesota he has been maligned as one of the worst starting shooting guards in the league and was basically given up on by his former team in order to clear cap space ... So what went wrong?
Continue reading after the jump for possible answers to that question, and an in-depth look at the newest Phoenix Sun....

I agree with most of the article, Maybe the change and real coaching will do the kid good. But I am also worried he might not put the work in to get to that next level.

Here is the link for the presser on the Trade.

I like the fact that Babby doesn't burn bridges. He is complimentary of exiting players. This lays a foundation of good will that will reap benefits in the future.

Babby's expression of the desire to get younger and accumulate assets is exactly what he should be doing right now.

I agree! It looks like instead of having players that don't really want to be here they are willing to see what they can do to help, but also if it makes sence for the team.

As I recall the Suns have been discreetly shopping Lopez for some time. I believe the Jazz were a rumored destination perhaps a year or two back.

I agree the Suns handled the trade of Warrick and Lopez well. They even parted on good terms with Amare.

Great points! I also respected the way he doesn't burn bridges and is very respectful to outgoing players.

Yup. You never know when you might want to get a player back. If he had burnt bridges, I am absolutely certain Goran would not have come back.

Dragic received $30M/4-years from the Suns. I am not absolutely certain, but I'd bet that's the highest amount anyone offered by a good margin. And if it hadn't been for the Suns trading him in the first place, he probably would have been looking at veteran's minimum deals this summer. I think money speaks a lot louder than any grudges, but in this case there were none as the Suns did Dragic a favor by trading him and then again by overpaying him to make up for their mistake.

actually, after we signed him, there were articles stating that Dragic had better offer, from Bobcats if i recall, but he chose to sign with Suns for less, because of his relationship with Gentry.
